Exactly! Forced diversity CAN'T, I repeat, CAN'T make the workplace better. If you hire the most qualified candidate regardless of color you get the most qualified workforce. If you hire with diversity quotas in mind you might have to pass on the most qualified individual to fill a quota, thereby making your workforce less than optimum. As for "tribalism", the phrase "birds of a feather flock together" describes the natural way of things perfectly, and you can't fool mother nature.
Also leads to resentment. There could be internal resentment by the "diversity hire" to either himself, knowing he is the diversity hire. Or to the company, quietly thinking they dont think highly of him because he's the diversity hire.
And resentment from the coworkers, knowing he didnt fully deserve the spot and forcing them to work with her/him/xir/xim. Like a coaches son that has no business being on the team, let alone, be part of the starting squad. Just a jumbled mess of incohesion that shouldnt even be there.
I work for a large tech company and their diversity initiative has already gone down in flames. First meeting was a Webex of pretty much an hour of hating on white people. They essentially called all of the US Execs and Hiring Managers racists.
The whole presentation was riddled with cherrypicked data and faulty methodologies, so very happy they pulled the plug.
I am waiting for this to happen. We've had lots of whining about white males in leadership but most have gone the Elizabeth Warren route of claiming insignificant Native American heritage to block the criticism or claiming that's how the company was decades ago when they started and how different they think it will be in the future. Seriously, pull the plug.
I had to attend one of those back in the day. The useless eater "teaching" the course split off the attendees into work groups. Me and another employee were grouped with the management three-fer [(1)brown (2)female (3)dyke] who sat on her ass and let us do all the work.
Yeah, identity politics in the workplace is wonderful. Soon we will all experience the camaraderie and togetherness of UC Berkeley. (Very obviously sarcastic.)
Seriously, this has crept into my workplace. We have groups for every non-white group, for women, and for gays. Basically it's becoming a lot of factions making demands that the other group's ox get gored and not theirs. Embracing this thinking is in no business's best interest.
I used the N word when I was five, not knowing what it meant. It was one of the only times my father spanked me. I didn't use it again until the Obama administration.
I joke with our management that every time they tell us about some green initiative I have to go home and burn a tire to purify myself.
People don't like tyrants. Who knew??? Psychology Today is so much smarter than the rest of us it's scary.
Nothing is wrong with diversity. Its forced diversity that is the problem.

Yeah, that really boosted "inclusion." NOT.

Glad i work at a lumber supply company filled with conservatives.
Oh gee. You mean when you stop telling everyone they're supposed to be divided they don't act divided? Funny how that works.
