You could do this all over the Midwest. Ohio, Indiana, etc all have small towns with (some) colleges that aren’t entirely fucked, careful with places like Oberlin though.
Also a really nice “hidden” spot is Shepherdstown West Virginia. Beautiful country. Lots of outdoor shit to do. Great small college town.
Gettysburg Pa and Carlisle Pa are also worth looking into. For all the same reasons listed above.

Don't know how many Trump supporters live here but there are many, many, homes displaying our great flag. We moved up here 2 years ago. When you are up here on the mountain you feel like you are not in CA. Don't know what you do for a living but this is a great place to live
