If I were to play detective, my first question would be when the people saw her going into the woods, why did they not say anything when they left and she hadn’t returned. Did they know why she walked off into the woods? Was she alone? Had she ever been arrested for or known to be hooking? If she were alone I guess it’s possible nobody noticed, but that seems highly unlikely. Was there any evidence of sexual contact? Did she have any bruising? What was the cause of death?
I would find out exactly what happened very quickly, but it doesn’t add up the way the article is written. Nobody is hunting down Native girls and killing them. Too bad it’s written that way.
The real racism is the "soft racism of low expectations" that gets applied to remote reservations, where rapes and murders are common. But those are 100% Indian-on-Indian so they don't count, their own tribal police do nothing, and the federal governments in both Canada and the U.S. quietly ignore it.
