The thing most people forget about SARS is it happened in 2003 and there was not the kind of international travel to and from China like there is today. Populations were also more isolated as they hadn't really started shipping people into cities and the people lived a bit more in rural areas

The only real hope is that only the bad cases are reported, that is why it is spreading so quickly and why it is so fatal, because China is kind of the land of caring for your grandparents and really good soup. Seeing as how it is pretty clearly going to spread far and wide, I hope the number of videos of people cracking their heads open on the pavement is lower than the deaths.
