Prof. James Milgram of Stanford University was the only Mathematics expert involved in developing Common Core. He refused to sign off on the Common Core Math standards when he saw how inferior they were to existing Math standards. He pointed out that Common Core Math delays Algebra I until 9th grade and does not include Calculus in high school at all, which are necessary for students to be prepared for STEM courses in college. Prof. Milgram concluded that Common Core will put American students at least two years behind the high-achieving countries of Europe and Asia.
Jason Zimba, the main architect of Common Core Math, admitted that it will only prepare students for Math courses at a non-selective Community College, not a four-year university.
Wow. That's incredibly sad. I took calculus in HS and did quite well and still got my ass kicked by college level calculus. It's totally stupid to waste all those years when kids' brains are growing by NOT teaching them math.
Good thing it is gone then.
Common Core is still around:

There is almost a decade of teachers trained in Common Core. Dozens of states have adopted it. These states will need to rewrite their curriculum and phase it out of their schools. Plus, there are still a lot of Common Core advocates heavily lobbying for it.
Common core was an introduction to govt that teaches kids the least effective way to problem solve.
Luckily, I was homeschooled before I got into highschool, so I got freshman year started off with algebra two. Although the year I graduated the school district stopped allowing 7th graders to take algebra.
Why did they enact that rule?
I have no idea. The school board also killed honors and advanced classes. They were trying to make the one size fits all classes in my school. I really don't know; my school board was pretty stupid.
