As a Canadian, I find it astounding that America wouldn't screen economic immigrants for those that cannot afford to even take care of themselves. There are dozens of hoops for economic immigrants to jump through to come to Canada including paying for your own health insurance for at least three months even though we have a single payer system. We also require proficiency in at least one of our official languages, and also a proof of funds to support yourself of a minimum $12,000!
