If you let the johns take their time, you'll be there all day. Light a cigarette, put it in an ashtray, and tell 'em they have until it burns out before they have to leave. Also, always get your money up front. Lastly, no rough trade. Unless you're some sort of masochist!
When watering orchids, many people keep them too dry or too wet and wind up losing the plants. I found the best way to water them is to really soak them when you water, even putting the roots under water for ten or fifteen minutes. Then let the roots completely dry out, and if you are uncertain about whether they're dry, wait a couple of days. In the wild most species live in trees where they get soaked in the rain and then completely dry out in-between. This is how they're designed to live. They must get a good drink (more than a sprinkle) and they must dry out (thoroughly) before the next watering. Even Phalaenopsis orchids do extremely well treated this way.
On your water heater, I would check the "fill tube" which insures that cold water fills from the bottom.
From my profession, it is not timing the market that is important, but rather time in the market.
