I am using another not very old site that is a place for people to post comments and be sociable and that does not allow blatant bashing of Trump or threats or doxxing etc etc., as a comparison here. (don't ask me what site) They were mildly monetized, hoping for donations at first. Then they started charging for upgraded participation. Then they quit responding to respectful inquiries from members. Now people say they are full of Leftards, and maybe they are, but they do take in lots of money. My emotional response to that site, even though an OP from day one? Not very good. The instant you add money into the equation, something happens that is not so good and only gets worse. Which makes me say, .win, stick to your guns. There is a purity here.
