The administration knows about cases like these and has done everything they can to minimize the damage. I’m not sure the proper course of action for your Uncle because I don’t know all the information.

Any damages from tariffs seem like small potatoes when it comes to the situation you describe of being pigeon holed by corporate farming. I don’t know how you keep your farm when someone wants to buy you out. It does seem that he may have had the option to sell, but chose to stay? Can’t imagine being so close to the cuff that 2 years of minimized sales would force you out.

Farming is like any other business and requires shifting to meet the demands of the markets. If he can’t compete with the big boys, that’s a whole other story. No amount of tariff relief funds will bring him back to being successful. Someone close should have warned him that emptying his savings wouldn’t bridge the gap.

I just don’t see how a letter to the President is going to help your uncle. He made decisions before Trump was in office that led to this situation and it isn’t going to get better unless he has a buyer for his product. If the giants want your uncle’s farm they will get it. The Trump administration can’t stop them from buying him out or crushing him in the process.

Hope it pans out for him as inexpensively as possible.
