It's funny because a guy with over 40K post points only has 400 comments points. I used to want a down vote button for comments now I understand the benefits of not having one. There is nothing we can do about it but when your catching flack it means your over the target.

The upvote count is very significant to them. It's social validation. They think we feel the same way: those upvotes make me a winner!

I've seen this happen on Gab before.
Back when Gab had upvotes and downvotes, comment threads on posts would always look the same; the top few comments would have like 30 likes and would be something criticizing Jews or praising Hitler (sometimes accompanied by a picture), even if the post had nothing related to these topics.
For users that spoke against this stuff, their post about it would get downvoted, and for those that spoke about it continuously, they would get downvote camped (where every single post made by that user would get downvoted multiple times).
Strangely when Gab got rid of downvotes and changed the way comments were sorted, no comment had more than 10 likes.
I have noticed that many down votes on older posts don't seem to affect your win count. The little bastages are wasting their time.
