Proposed Initiative Prohibits Sale or Registration of Gas-Only and Diesel-Only Passenger Vehicles and Light Trucks Manufactured After 2020.
The Secretary of State, Alex Padilla announced that the proponent of a new initiative was cleared to begin collecting petition signatures. The Secretary of State's tracking number for this measure is 1888 and the Attorney General's tracking number is 19-0031.
So if you intend to purchase a 2021 vehicle and live in California, you are SOL if this becomes law. The proponent of the measure, John Hankey, must collect signatures of 623,212 registered voters in order to qualify it for the ballot.
And California already is banning buses and trucks made before 2010 starting 2023.
Correct. But only for buses and trucks with gross vehicle weight in excess of 14,000 pounds.
And there are carve outs for specialized heavy duty construction vehicles.
But even allowing this type of crazy is, well, crazy.
