Some of these people are not just "friends." They are family members and I cannot just abandon them. I try to be kind and show them a different path, and try to tell them it's not their fault that they were lied to and manipulated virtually all their lives by people who are expert at lying and manipulating.
Their worldview is being shattered. It isn't what they thought it was at all and they are in extreme denial about it. That's why they focus on the messenger (Trump) and not on the actual perpetrators, because the perps are the ones they've trusted all their lives and they're just not ready to come to terms with that yet.
Many will come around if you give them a little encouragement. Don't try to force it or argue. Don't ridicule them.
Just keep asking questions and let them figure it out for themselves, little by little. They'll get there, and they're going to need you when they do.

Only liberal friends I have themselves chose to stop being friends with me. Not for political reasons (they don't know my views), but because they were just too self-absorbed to bother to sustain a friendship.
