It's better for everyone that it worked out the way it did. This way, they've been exposed and even people who aren't that in to politics or who are woefully under-informed have been able to see what's going on. The party is self destructing, and imo, it needs to. It needs to just cease to exist and something decent can (hopefully) be built to replace it.
