Unfortunately, our politicians- and I’m primarily speaking at the federal level- live on a parallel American Life Track then the citizenry.
Once they are admitted to that exclusive club they have very little interest in rejoining the rest of us proles in the rear of the train. The swamp is there partially to make sure that does not happen.
Also, rabid opposition to anything resembling term limits, limits on lobbying, and close inspection of donor lists is used toward this end as well..
