Railguns. Insane kinetic energy delivered to your target without mucking around with unstable explosives and expensive and heavy-to-orbit energy management for laser arrays. Screw chemistry. Meteor power level physics for the win.

Railguns also make for nice mass launchers from the Moon to target Earth sites like a Death Star. It's the ultimate high ground. More kinetic energy than a nuclear blast delivered to your door - and you'll never stop it. And with a little ingenuity - never see it until everyone noticed a smoking crater where that city used to be.

Little further out ...

Anyone notice all that mass in the asteroid belt just waiting to be redirected? Who needs 'Rods from God' when you can just be the first to attach ion thrusters and start moving continent killing chunks of rock into new orbits. Each one picking up speed on every Mars flyby until the 'Go-Codes' put them into their final target trajectories?

Who needs nukes when you can eradicate a country before they knew who or what hit them - in an instant? Scale up large and you've got your own extinction event engine. Need a focus group? Ask a Dinosaur. You could hold Earth's fate with a button.

Space Force.

Fly high. Think big. Kill everything.

(BTW : I'm available for hire - and for parties & bar mitzvahs. Who needs a planet depopulated? I got your plans right here! DM me! Let's do lunch, and plan the conquest! I'm cheaper than DARPA. Let's Make America - Everything.)

Getting Issac Arthur vibes from this comment.. but from his evil twin perhaps. Check out his youtube channel if you aren't already familiar with it.

Getting back on topic, there are US military planes with laser weaponry and its speculated that it makes for very cheap and effective anti-satellite and anti-air weaponry.. no expensive flying ordnance leaving messy and hot launch signatures.. just an unobtrusive beam that you wouldn't even notice unless you flew through it.

Like railguns that need a ship to mount on, its a question of will to get the R&D done, primarily around the power source to drive the thing. And its never a zero sum game, if that $ is more effectively spent on boots for soldiers, fuel for vehicles, repair capability, upgrades for millions of systems all needing a refurbish that are battle-ready now, in theory it will be.

Love his work (you guessed correctly)!

Outstanding taste sir, its been a couple months since I first found his channel and I still get chills scrolling around the video art and titles.. so many amazing topics some of which may start to be coming to fruition perhaps with some of the more tantalising hints that Trump has been dropping in various speeches and presentations.

You cant reach for the stars when there are swamp monsters and landmines and pitfalls that need crushing and avoiding though, everything in its proper order. The best is yet to come..

In space close-quarter combat isn't really an issue if you can take out an approaching vessel thousands of miles away - and not just in a small way - but wholly obliterated.

Where's your cover? You literally can't be more exposed in space.

Unfortunately, it looks like it'll be at least 20 years till beam weapons of any sort are viable, like AtariArtist said, our best bet for the moment is magnetic weapons.

The fact is that we ALREADY HAVE THEM!

Space based lasers were developed in the 1980's. Electronics have gotten smaller and more efficient. Solid state laser diodes could make handheld death rays possible!

With no air to deflect the laser, they will see an efficiency boost of some 25%.

The problem is powering them!

Microwave guns for the win.

Sounds like swords would be more appropriate
