Yep, there are a lot of common-sensical adjustments we need to make, force a more honest apparatus into existence. Very few Americans want to eliminate that safety net but all honest citizens should want it to be just that, Honest.
After Katrina media interviewed people in government housing in New Orleans who had been in the same complexes for generations, raising families and sucking the government teat for decades. Most of them were angry, said 'somebody' had to fix their homes...their homes, not government housing, their by-golly homes. Because they considered themselves entitled, like the OP here, entitled to other people's monies. Many of them had kids and grandkids who had all grown up in the same government owned complexes, all living on that welfare check plus whatever criminal activity they could muster. Many of them spoke of that government apartment as the only home 3-5 generations of them had even known.

If it is to be discontinued, then it needs to be phased out beginning with the new generation of earners who've not begun to pay into it; or at the very least, I want a lump-sum refund.
