I literally had this discussion with a liberal accquaintence. She: 1. couldn't define an assuault weapon. 2. Didn't understand anyting about guns - semi auto, full auto, bolt action, etc. 3. Couldn't understand that ANYTHING can be an assualt weapon if used in such a manner. It was 'muh feelings" and "think of the children".
I like this person. She's just young and has been programmed. I offered to take her to the range and she could shoot anything she wanted of mine. I'd bring one of everything and we'd go on a weeknight so we could spend as long as we wanted. She declined, but I told her that the offer stands if she wants to get educated. No judgement.

The surest way to open their eyes is to calmly and kindly expose them to the exact thing they're most afraid of/upset by/programmed to 'believe.'
The first "assault weapon" on record was a rock, FCOL.
Oh there's gonna be plenty of judgement...
