For those too lazy to read, this is NOT advocating tobacco use as a cure. There have been very successful vaccines created using tobacco leaves as expression vectors for antibodies to specific pathogens. There is a large advantage to using plant vectors over the avian-ovo vectors, because if a mistake is made (i.e. the anticipated flu virus for flu season is significantly different) the plant solution can be corrected in time to produce large numbers of vaccines during an applicable time frame, opposed to having a "too little, too late" attitude. Tobacco leaves are characteristically large and grow quickly, making them an ideal plant for specific protein expression after a gene of interest is introduced.
This method has been successfully used to create a therapeutic vaccine (i.e. a cure, not prevention) for EBOLA. There has been significant pushback from established vaccine manufacturers from allowing this method to flourish.
This seems a valid observation. I take the View from the fact I used tobacco to worm out all of my horses. And it worked, with out the Big Pharma poison.
