Adoption isn’t abandonment. Most who place their babies for adoption do so because they don’t have the ability to properly care for the child. It’s an extremely difficult, selfless act. Birth parents should be given credit for giving their kids life, and a chance.
While that's true, a lot of adopted kids end up with emotional problems for various reasons related to it -- wondering why their mother or their parents gave them up, and not knowing their background or history. I dated one who was in this boat. I've occasionally wondered if she pounced on the "23andMe" type tests to find her biological family.
Then there are the ones whose adoptive parents gave them a free pass on everything because "OMG my precious child!" I've known two who were giant raging assholes because their parents never disciplined them and catered to their every whim -- for one of them, my scoutmaster actually took me aside and thanked me (instead of punishing me) for getting into a fight with the kid because he was such an enormous pain in the ass.
Actually, now that I think about it, these constitute 100% of the adopted people I definitely know. Hmm.
As a mother this is extremely sad. What parent allows their child to denigrate themselves like this, and doesn’t try to steer them into a dignified life? What this girl is searching for is Jesus. I pray that He leads her to Him.
