...not that it would ultimately matter (Trump would win anyway.) But still, Bloomberg is not now and never really has been a Democrat. His record and past statements reflect that. He would have sold better as a Republican alternative to Trump. Of course, the only people this would appeal to are NeverTrumpers who (a) don't matter and (b) will never win, so... But anyway, this is good advice, so #milliondollarspleaseMayorCheat.

He has just thrown away a ton of money and made Bernie, the one candidate he truly despises, the strongest candidate on the Dem side. Think of all the good he could have done with that money. Oh well.
Considering that it bought a much greater likelihood of four more years of Trump (senior), I'm inclined to be grateful, myself.
There is a part of Democrat party that thinks they can be centrist on economics (not socialist) and liberal on social issues. Not true any more. At one time you could even have pro-life Democrats. No more. It isn't a big tent. Heck it isn't even a pup tent. Conform or be cast out.
Clinton and Obama were candidates that could effectively paper-over these division by sweet-talking the factions, while the "moderates" were slowly excised out of the party.
Clinton and Obama, for all the faults we perceive them to have, also had charisma and the ability to nod/wink on issues like gay marriage and illegal immigration. The radical Dems knew what their real positions were, knew they were lying to fool the rubes, and were completely OK with the deception. This is why they so easily believe that Trump is a racist; they're used to politicians who lie about their true beliefs in order to appeal to low-information supporters. Following this theory, Sanders would be smart to start walking back his most radical platform points. The problem is that Sanders is not smart.
Not after that performance.
He can run under the new Jeb! party with Romney, Tulsi, Yang, and AOC in 2024.
That's kind of my point; the Jebpublican! party wouldn't have savaged him like that; he'd have been coddled with questions like "how-can-you-be-so-awesome" and softball grounders on anything substantive. The Dems despise him from Hillary on down to the least pleb in Chicago; he never had a chance as a Democrat.
