It isn't enough for the healthcare industry to be opaque and monopolistic. Now they are trying to compel us to purchase this shit product.
If I needed cutting edge medical help ever, the US would be my choice. But for 99.9% of medical procedures and drugs private clinics in most other countries are truly free market. A next day MRI cost me $120 abroad. In the US 10,000 to 20,000 dollars and I'm not sure how long I'd have to wait. With insurance the deductible is still over $2,000. So even if I had US insurance it would still be cheaper to buy an international ticket to get my MRI elsewhere then pay the deductible.
This doesn't account for litigation expenses. If they fuck up abroad you won't make as much money but that is a choice the consumer should be free to make. Also litigation abroad will be much cheaper to pursue.
Excessive regulation and not caring about anti trust laws. Price fixing is not free market. In no free market would you not be able to call up a hospital and get an answer as to how much a service will cost
