I'm not one of the exceptions. There's a lot of people around the world that search for freedom and opportunity and would make excellent patriots. But you are right there are also a LOT of people who do not fit in to the American way and we should not let those people in. There should definitely be SEVERE vetting and then even if you make it to the US you should have to take assimilation classes, you should be able to speak english and you should be monitored (like if you commit a felony you have to go back)
I'm not sure about your case, but generally speaking the problem is that we've let in tens of millions of immigrants from vastly different cultures and when immigrants are not in a position where they have to assimilate with the host culture then they form enclaves and create divided societies. I like a lot of other cultures, but I don't want to become the same as them; so if they come here they need to come in numbers that are sustainable so that we can maintain our culture and way of life.
I see this all the time with Europeans, who are much more similar culturally than Asians, Africans, and Middle Easterners. They'll support 90% of America but then freak out and be totally against something like gun rights or freedom of speech (eg. They'll want hate crimes, protections for blasphemy against Islam, etc.). This is fine if they're a small portion of the population because then we can listen to their arguments and maybe it'll be a good idea or change. But right now it feels like a tidal wave of people have come in and don't appreciate what it means to be America. Coupled with heavy propaganda from our own government and I think that's why you'll see a lot of bitterness against immigrants right now.
I'm not arguing those points. What we've seen for example with the Somalian population where they form their own community within the larger community is not right. If you come here you should assimilate into the culture and obey the laws of the land, not whatever your previous upbringing tells you. We should definitely be better at assimilation and not just bring in people without an actual plan. You should learn english, you should learn the laws, you should be heavily vetted to make sure you hold no ill will to the US. But if you're ready to be a contributing member of this society, there should be a place for you as long as you can be a net positive to our country
Eastern Europe, the 5 or so prosperous right wing sub-Saharan African countries, Venezuela, Cuba, India, then Japan are the best places in that order to get immigrants from in my opinion. Skin pigmentation is a silly thing to promote or condemn. We need every pede, and I don't give a damn what they look like or who they pray to. There hasn't been an honest, honorable Democrat since Grover Cleveland in 1897... so I've got no qualms with cheating at the immigration game.
Fuck Venezuela. Let them own their mistakes and fix them. Then they'll appreciate things more next time. If we import their best and brightest we'll be importing the architects of their disaster, and if we import the poor we'll get uneducated voters that still don't understand just how bad communism/socialism are.
