My liberal brother-in-law came over to my house today with a box of respiratory masks to "save us" from the coronavirus (yes, he was wearing one.) He warned us that there were none left at Lowe's. He was whining about how we need to go stock up on groceries, supplies and fill the vehicles up with gas, and that we should stay home - have no contact with people. Basically warning us that the world is about to end. Look, I stayed at home in New Orleans during Katrina and lived for months in its aftermath - I ain't scared. He kept railing about the "pandemic" so I just started to cough and pretended to blow my nose. So he left and told us he would leave food on the porch later. The guy is a lost cause.

Better to be months too early than a minute late.
FWIW - the masks, they do nothing.
My mask does something. 3M Full Facepiece Respirators 7800S Series. Also works for spraying nasty death to the spiders and bugs in the yard. Scares my neighbours. Whats not to like!
Buying masks in preparation is one thing, but wearing one around and stocking up on other supplies at this point is hysteria.
Its amazing how fast it switched from "it's just a flu idiot" to "panic buy and dump stocks!" when it became apparent it could hurt Trump. Damn its sad how quickly the libs get whipped into a frothy fury about shit.
I've been watching this virus since it was sitting at a few hundred reported cases just in Wuhan, and its good to be aware and prepared for any natural disaster, with a way to purify water, food stored properly for a few weeks time, and a way to defend yourself. That's just common fucking sense and a good habit that all of us rural people seem to have. You never know when things are going to go sideways because nature decides it hates you that day.
The media's power over leftists is adorable.
Alex Jones is scared too and he tried to sell food storage. I won't need to eat if I'm dead.
I heard bone broth in my showerheads kills Carol's virus.
"Now who in the hell put bullion cubes in the showerhead?!"

You have to remember that leftists are religious zealots who worship government as the atheistic 'god' which dispenses structure, meaning and all manner of (social welfare) blessings. Once you do that, their behavior makes total sense.
Think of your brother as one of the benighted and superstitious medieval apocalyptarians who scourged themselves in atonement for perceived sins in order to stave off the Four Horsemen and the 'end times'. These people enjoy giving themselves the willies; they happily lose their minds fantasizing about casting off all their earthly burdens (and student loan debts) in preparation for the rapture, which is nigh.
This is because leftists are easily frightened people. Life is dangerous and incomprehensible to navigate so they cluster together in herds, inch their way forward with their meager intellectual lights, and rely desperately on their governmental 'god' to protect and sustain them against the monsters in the dark.
Lol in laws are fun. Family in general. I've got some aunts that are full blown old hippy burnouts. They're NUTS but man they're hilarious and fun to have dinner with.
Trump even just said it's more like the common cold. Everyone that's died from it was either old af or sick. Or in some backwoods shithole. He put pence in change, we're fine.
I mean buying a mask in preparedness is a good thing, but his hysteria will lead more people to freak out and cause more panic then necessary. Though always good to have some food/water/etc in case of any emergency.
I think it’s a real threat I’ve been following it since the beginning, it seems bad but now that the Dems and fake news see their chance they’re going to politicize it to try and take down Trump, I hope it’s under control and he’s not being mislead by deep state cunts in the cdc, but I’m not convinced
I don't pretend to understand what's going on at the moment. All I know is that I certainly don't trust any info out of China, and other governments are acting all out of proportion to the official statistics.
DHS is saying to keep 2 weeks of food and water on hand.
It's certainly not the end of the world, but it's not nothing.
