There is a big momentum in this country pushing former moderate pr conservative democrats out of the party. It's good that so many people finally understand the bolshevik movement has no room for moderation and they are a danger to everyone

This can’t be. I was told by r/politics that Bernie wouldn’t impact the down ballot.

They are low information voters. They assume all other voters are as dumb and willfully ignorant as them.

It's very rare that someone would go "Today I'm voting for leftist ideology. Okay going to bed, night! Woah I just woke up I'm voting for conservative policies now!"

If their track record shows them voting for mostly conservative policies before the switch, then that's okay. It shows they never aligned with the left, and why they are changing.

But if their track record prior to the switch is mostly leftist votes, it's a scam.

Democrats know they are heavily disliked, and will get crushed in the voting booth. So I'm worried a lot of this recent switching in so many states, may just be leftists hoping if they switch they can claim the republican nomination without a primary, and capitalize on anti democrat sentiment to cruise to a victory as a republican, that they would have lost as a democrat....where they'll proceed to always conveniently vote against key republican legislation.

Trump welcomes all Democrat defectors.

Call me an optimist, but we've certainly heard that Dem politicians are threatened with their careers if they vote against party lines. They may be using this to try and secure votes just for having an R beside them on the ballot, or maybe they're truly escaping their abusers.

FWIW two of the converts were Independents until now, so 'just' six Dems moving over. I don't have time to look at their records, but if you've time the list is:

Matt Sullivan (Democrat)

Guy Easterling (Independent)

Bobby Wayne Mooney (Independent)

Cindy Austin (Democrat)

Anthony Grayson (Democrat)

Mary Lou Powell (Democrat)

Danny Arender (Democrat)

Hulon West (Democrat)

So are we acknowledging that party switches are possible now?

They always were 'possible'.

However, to be 'possible' doesn't mean the Democrat lie that the R Party and D Party switched to excuse away the history of the D Party's racism (KKK, voting against freeing the slaves, voting against giving blacks right to vote, etc), it doesn't mean THAT claim of a party switch is true. That is a lie.

Parties world wide push left and right all the time, more to the left than right over the last two centuries. In the case of the Democrat party it was the conservative party for most of the nineteenth century and into the beginning of the twentieth. Much as we may admire Theodore Roosevelt, let's not pretend he was politically anything but a progressive.

I do agree the tall tales of the Southern Strategy does not hold up to the light of history, but neither does the fairytale of Conservative Republicans in the Civil War. The power of the federal government exploded under the Lincoln administration and it has been a race to the bottom ever since. The Democrats just got in the lead of the race when Wilson pushed hard for progressivism, and leaped far ahead when Franklin Roosevelt embraced the Soviet Union as a nation among nation's and pushed the New Deal.

I made my post because while I loved The Donald, the no party switch meme went too far and made us look damned stupid. The Southern Strategy of Nixon is a fib. Sure, but so is pretending that Nineteenth Century Republicans and Democrats were playing the same game as their Twentieth Century followers.

Don't just use the internet, go to the library and start reading up on all the famous, and less famous, Republican and Democrat politicians from the start of their parties till today. You'll be surprised at what they did and why.
