That reminds me the early days of the internet when people would direct link to pictures and the web folks would cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war. I'm ignorant in the way things work now, but is it correct to assume it's ok to link directly to an image these days?
Developers can choose to allow hotlinking or not. If it works it works.
Hotlinking does come with its own perils - back in the day if we found people hotlinking our pics we would update the image in our database to lemonparty or similar.
