That reminds me the early days of the internet when people would direct link to pictures and the web folks would cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war. I'm ignorant in the way things work now, but is it correct to assume it's ok to link directly to an image these days?
Developers can choose to allow hotlinking or not. If it works it works.
Hotlinking does come with its own perils - back in the day if we found people hotlinking our pics we would update the image in our database to lemonparty or similar.
I own kekpe.pe, I actually was just thinking about this yesterday. I will be adding a upload via url option soon. I also will be making the site more mobile friendly. Thanks for the suggestion!
I didn't think of it until I saw this, but I have a hover-over image-expanding extension on my browser, and it does NOT work by hovering over the types of posts you suggest (with the tab). Normally I can hover over the text of the post and it will pop up the image until I mouse off of it, but if it has that tab, it will not pop-up, forcing me to do an extra click on a tiny button.
Simple link without registration or picture storage and you dont have a bunch of cucks commenting on your pic. I've got downvoted so much on Imgur I couldn't use it anymore. It's hard to believe people actually post on there and comment on pictures, I thought it was just an upload site. I guess it's the same people that still have Myspace accounts...
Side note, this place should ban imgur and only allow MAGA image providers such as kekpe.pe and maga.host. Also include them as part of the post submission page (if possible) so people can upload images without going to a separate site. Let people choose which one they want to use, browse to their image, submit and done.
I don't know the story behind what happened to magaimg. I fully understand the wariness but I promise I will be doing everything in my power to keep kekpe.pe online. I will have everything well backed up in case any fuckery happens. I have some stuff going on in my personal life for the next few weeks and after that I will be dedicating a lot of time to improving the site. I have a few things in mind to make it better. Suggestions are welcome.

Except that if those get shut down, we lose all our links. That's what happened with magaimg.net, everything is gone.
Same happens if imgur purges our content.
