I've seen quite a few comments today asking about a mobile app and I'd be very happy to build it, but before I invest any time, I would like to make sure no one else is already building one. (Or if you are already building one and would like some help, I can do that too.)

A little about myself: I joined td.win as soon as it was opened to the public. I had actually already stopped participating on reddit long before then, as I recognized the blatant censorship, bias, and abuse of power on reddit early on and wanted no part in it. I'd been lurking on /r/t_d (and only /r/t_d) for a while, and it wasn't until being able to freely post on td.win that I realized just how oppressed I had been feeling. Their goal has always been to silence, divide, and isolate us. It's great to have a voice again and to be able to talk with other like-minded folks (exactly the opposite of what these leftists want).

As for my technical background: I've been a professional web application developer for 12 years and I am extremely good at it. I could probably have a fully functional mobile app for td.win built within a couple of weeks if able to work on it full time. I actually quit my job last year because I was surrounded by too many leftist democrats and I felt like I was selling my soul for a paycheck. Since then, my primary goal has been to run a business of my own (I love capitalism) and MAGA/KAG while I do it, or at least find something where I feel like I'm doing some actual good in the world. It's tough though, especially in the world of tech.

We need more tech savvy capitalist conservatives building things for freedom. We need to take the power back and keep it in the hands of the people. People should always be able to communicate freely and conduct business freely without fear of persecution.

So shall we build a mobile app for thedonald.win? I say "we" because it would be driven by feedback from the community. Support from the godly mods here would also be incredibly helpful. It would be free, of course, but it would also be ideal to somehow capitalize on it so that it could be worked on full time and made truly great. The initial version would look and function a lot like this site, but being a mobile app would open up the possibility of extra functionality for the purpose of spreading ̶m̶e̶m̶e̶s̶ freedom all over the internet.

Who knows... maybe it could be the start of something much bigger?

Edit (fuck spez btw): I just looked over the Terms of Service here and it looks like I won't be able to reverse engineer anything without breaking the TOS, so I will definitely need the blessing of the people who run td.win before I do anything. Maybe in the mean time I can whip together a mobile browser extension or something that reskins this site and adds a bit more functionality?

This needs to be stickied. You bring up a good point of waiting to begin until you know its not already in development. we definitely need an app

If anyone knows how to contact the mods and bring their attention to this thread, that would be great. I want to make sure they aren't already working on something. Even if they aren't, I would like to have their blessing.

100K new users in a single day. Yes, I can assure you they're beyond busy.

25
Bacchus 25 points ago +25 / -0

Is there are way to see how many users there are, and active? Just made the jump myself an hour or 2 ago

29
IncredibleMrE1 29 points ago +29 / -0

Not currently. That is a feature the mods refrained from adding, at least initially. The 100k new users was provided to Breitbart yesterday by the mod team.

Interesting. I wonder why our posts are getting so few upvotes

WEW LAD

They are seriously busy! <3 <3 <3

>also, you gotta figure not all of those are friendlies. There will be a lot of weeding-out of troublemakers, fielding all those "deported" comments/shills, etc etc, I can't imagine what a mess that must be to deal with! WE LOVE OUR MODS <3 <3 <3

That's numbers like the day after the Orlando nightclub incident. (The_Donald suddenly got massive inbound traffic/new members in a day, because MSM and r/edacted were suppressing fact-based news reports.) Interestingly enough, r/edacted was losing members more quickly than we were gaining: I watched their userbase fall drastically every few seconds, by refreshing their page over & over. Another aspect of that sudden distrust of r/edacted: this brought to attention the little-noticed fact that users were subscribed to Reddit's Leftist-approved political sub by default, and many people were "unsubscribing" to something they never even knew they were subscribed to, and wanted no part of considering their first impression was that of skeezy censorship.

Even as someone who probably wouldn't use it, I agree. We need to remove every barrier of entry for people to make the switch.

My work around is mobile browser homepage is .win, but still, it feels barebones.

14
cybertoke 14 points ago +15 / -1

they also need to add a self-image-host feature. so we dont need to use imgur etc...

2

Every little bit helps. That level and variety of accessibility is an example of the leverage the mega internet conglomerates of today have over the little guys.

10
acebrg 10 points ago +12 / -2

I don't understand why there needs to be another app. td.win already runs in the mobile browsers, why not just tweak it and add new features/pages to it?

I'm also a web app developer with 15+ years of experience and could help out the dev team if needed

MAGA45_2 29 points ago +29 / -0

Thinking it wasn’t would be silly. Even 500million would have been too much for the site.

31
1776-or-1984 31 points ago +31 / -0

$50k-80k, $100k tops would have been adequate. Goddamn Obama was a real piece of shit

13
retardmonkey 13 points ago +14 / -1

For the application part. I think it would add a lot of cost for lawyers to make sure the application was built to the law, and then more for testing and quality insurance. But the full cost would be no where near 2.1B.

Making the app is one thing, and I'm sure there will be a lot of support for it. Getting the app approved to be available for download is another.

34
handpeople 34 points ago +36 / -2

Damn a few weeks, I would assume its not a one man job even. Been at this for awhile. Seems like it would take a couple weeks just for account management. But good on you if you can. I work with Flutter and Dart, React, Vue... not something I could do in a few weeks. Devil always in the details.

27
lokiodinson [S] 27 points ago +27 / -0

It would be a React (probably React Native) app which uses this website's existing API endpoints. The ability to use the existing API would save a lot of time. Building the user interface would be relatively quick/straightforward, especially since most design decisions have already been made here.

19
dakkath 19 points ago +19 / -0

Just be aware that Google Play and Apple Store most definitely will try to fuck us over by blocking the application.

I would love a mobile app for this site BTW. Just wanted to remind you how they have people completely fucked by monopolizing the app-stores for the phones/devices.

12
retardmonkey 12 points ago +12 / -0

Direct download for Android would probably be the easiest approach.

17
handpeople 17 points ago +18 / -1

Not sure they have a real API for the site. Admittedly, if they had a cohesive API it would basically be a UI job with some small middle tier.

20
lokiodinson [S] 20 points ago +21 / -1

If I am unable to get the mods' attention and blessing, I will probably try to reverse engineer all of the API endpoints - i.e., logging in, sessions, posting, commenting, upvoting, messages, etc.

Paging u/Shadowman3001 :)

Edit (fuck spez btw): I just looked over the Terms of Service here and it looks like I won't be able to reverse engineer anything without breaking the TOS, so I will definitely need the blessing of the people who run td.win before I do anything. Maybe I can whip together a browser extension or something that reskins this site on mobile instead?

API is just something that allows programs to talk to each other. Aka the "app" can talk to the website/get data from it, if the website's API exists and allows it.

5
Barbs 5 points ago +6 / -1

An API is an “application programming interface.” Think of it as a bunch of commands that allow the app to send and retrieve raw data instead of the full web page. Then they can use that data to essentially rebuild the page inside the app, and can send data back to the website (like a comment) without you having to be on the site in a browser.

He’s saying if they don’t have a formal API he could try to figure out the lower level commands the website uses natively, instead of an API set up just for that purpose, but the TD.win terms of service don’t allow it.

Hope that’s a bit more clear for any non-programmers out there.

practicalize 11 points ago +11 / -0

List of technologies the site is "built with": https://builtwith.com/detailed/thedonald.win

Client-side source code isn't obfuscated. I'm seeing React/Redux confirmed in dev tools (though Built With didn't pick that up). JS source 1. JS source 2.

Looks like it's using an enterprise CMS called Progress Sitefinity. .NET backend. It advertises a robust API. I'm pretty sure they're hosting themselves instead of using the Azure cloud version. Looks like Namecheap hosting.

If their hosting is .NET 4.0, then the latest version of Progress Sitefinity would be 10.0. Here's the public API reference for Sitefinity CMS 10.0 (requires Visual Studio).

The Sitefinity WebServices SDK is published on NPM. You could play with that and install a sandbox version of the CMS locally if you've got a Windows machine.

5

I'm not sure they have an API since I assume they built this with no intention to open it for public access. React Native would be a good multi-platform language choice.

Plus extra spice is using React, built by Zuckbook consevative-censors, to build a MAGA app. Haha!

Why not a wrapper around the mobile site, maybe add some native event hooks?

5
lokiodinson [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

Hope you can make something special here.

God I love free speech.

7
Reduce 7 points ago +8 / -1

Hahahaha, in all honestly though, the political beliefs of an individual I have noticed really does reflect their work ethic. Good programmers, after successfully getting a program to compile and execute, hunt for hours looking for bugs and possible vulnerabilities. The left mindset seems to think someone else will fix it for them eventually and as long as it look good at face-value they have done their job. Perfection is not within their beliefs as everything is acceptable regardless of it is absolute shit.

I am a low-level programmer, and seeing sloppy code makes me cringe as I can already tell how inefficient it is when it is going through the assembler and finally into machine code.

3
Swole 3 points ago +3 / -0

Hell yeah for free speech, this entire move just gives me a new energy

2
SemperFree 2 points ago +2 / -0

Agree, horrible people to work with. Life is short, you have to pay me quite a bit to put up with their shit code and shit attitudes. Even then, I'm not interested in helping someone that hates me get better.

The environment has been hostile since Obama. My guess is that it stems from the indoctrination camps (colleges) and enters the workforce. The Luna left is emboldened and are openly hostile to Republicans/conservatives without fear of repercussions.

I used to think that, but If the app was for EXCLUSIVELY T_D.W, it’s hard to see the argument against the rules of the App Store other than orange man bad

16
AnatomicFlack 16 points ago +16 / -0

You should look to the Apollo app for GUI inspiration.

If the end goal would be to have a an app within the respective app stores, I wouldn't count on it being approved. Especially not by Apple. They've made it abundantly clear they will never allow apps they considered subversive to exist.

It kinda sounds like your focus is on a mobile html version of the site, not an app.

This is a great idea though... It's the biggest issue I have right now... I can carve my way through T_D so much faster in Apollo than I can with either the official app or the website. The interface is so fluid, with swiping actions for up/downvote and long swipes for reply or save. It greatly increased my ability to upvote all the things! :)

9
lokiodinson [S] 9 points ago +9 / -0

Apollo looks pretty slick! Thanks for the tip!

7

2
Sliim 2 points ago +2 / -0

I use Apollo for browsing T_D as well, and use it as my primary Reddit browsing app. If there is a way to view this site with an app that’s already approved in the store, then we shouldn’t have to worry about Apple/Google censors

2
bonus-round 2 points ago +2 / -0

What languages are your day to day? Also what do you think runs this site? Nodejs i bet

3
lokiodinson [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

Mostly modern JS day to day.

I'm not sure what this site uses. I originally assumed it was a fork of one of the open source reddit clones/forks, but I think it may actually be completely custom, possibly tightly integrated with CloudFlare (and their workers), which would indeed mean Nodejs.

3
1776-or-1984 3 points ago +3 / -0

Thanks.

And you're correct, this is a fork of reddit's open source code base, mods posted something to that effect when they first pulled the curtains back on here back in November/December.

Which is weird, because this site lacks quite a bit of functionality if its a fork, which is a headscratcher. Oh well, I like it, and its continued to improve month by month.

Nodejs full stack developer here. I also, am tired of the current "male libs dominate tech" and "female libs dominate journalism". It's the reason America is in this state. I thought about an app but my hands are full atm, cuz I also love capitalism.

You should message mods about opening a dotwin API, private key, etc, then monitoring network requests as you build it.

Unrelated but topical: Could someone add "old reddit" style functionality to td.win? What I mean is, I need to display this website in text only format in order to avoid trouble at work.

2
practicalize 2 points ago +2 / -0

We could do that if they open up access to their API. They have to worry about stability for a while, so I'm doubtful. Not sure who's footing the hosting bill.

5
AngryCanary 5 points ago +5 / -0

If the Donald gives permission to use their API endpoints I'd be willing to make an app too. My only concern is retribution from Google play and the Apple store for publishing pro-Trump content as they have a monopoly. That's the chilling effect of censorship, especially when the tech space is ruled by monopolies.

5
TheSwiftPepe 5 points ago +5 / -0

Good luck, friend! I'm a native iOS developer. Objective-C and Swift, which means I'm SOL for Android without a bunch of extra hours learning the platform. The fact that you could readily use react native is encouraging. I would still be more than happy to help in any way you needed. Including with the App Store submission process.

Something tells me that Apple will be stricter on us than the usual app, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. Keep me in mind, because I'd love to help!

Spez: There's more than one app store btw. We could always look into launching for jailbroken phones only. Not nearly as much reach that way, but it'd be something.

I was thinking something like forking Slide for Reddit and making a shim to allow data from here to be accessed like a subreddit

I'll App you so hard. (Hopefully)

I would totally be behind this. I can't sit at my computer, so I browse from my phone. It's a pain but I need to stay in the loop.

The reasons I like app idea: I really like just scrolling endlessly, web page version you keep having to click next page I do not not like links to open in the same browser tab App makes it easier to share memes to other platforms

For monetizing it, I would sell the app for like a 2 or 3 dollars. I'm sure anybody can spare that much in order to use the app without adds especially if it's used regularly.

I really hate ads. I will never put ads in anything.

Just reading thru the comments and I see a lot of people mentioning monetizing the app. Personally, I wouldn't mind throwing a few bucks in if the app is good, but I'd also like to see it for free so we can get as many people on this site as possible.

What do you think about a donation system? What if people can donate to your app and part of the money goes into advertising the app on google play store, iOS, and even websites (like reddit kek)

This way you can motivate people to chip in while giving them a sense that they're giving the finger to the left that's trying to silence us.

I think I will have to start off with a free browser extension for both Firefox and Brave (and Chrome by proxy but I certainly recommend Brave over Chrome). I think Firefox is the only mobile browser that supports extensions though.

Maybe I'll include a donation link on the extension page and if it gains traction and the mods here notice it, maybe they will work with me to build a proper mobile app.

True, but it would suck to work for free. And any monetization can only help you make a good app. But your call though.

Inject this in my veins

MAGA_Steve 3 points ago +3 / -0

That would be awesome! And if you can format the thumbnail pics large enough to be viewed and read without opening the thread, that would be tits!

Whatever we end up doing here, let's make sure security is core to the mission. Too many times I've seen poor security controls or particularly vulnerable libraries in use with custom apps. These lead to compromised accounts, increases in attack surfaces, exposure of data, etc... There's some pretty decent security controls integrated into the site itself such as CloudFlare denial of service protection, CAPTCHA forms, ssl certificates, etc... I just hope we have some advanced threat protection such as an L7 firewall or WAF.

Absolutely!

3
KALOWG 3 points ago +3 / -0

I like the idea, but I wonder how long it would be before Apple or Google made up some bullshit excuse to take it down.

Would it be much more work to make the website as mobile friendly as possible?

I can't understand what you people think an "app" does for this site that you don't get from just opening a web browser and going to www.thedonald.win

All "apps" do is give someone the capacity to spy on you!

lokiodinson [S] 12 points ago +12 / -0

You are absolutely right. It depends on the app (and its permissions) though. I've personally always refused to install Facebook, Instagram, etc. on my phones.

A webview with better mobile CSS may even be all that's needed for this site. Maybe that's where I'll start?

sgtvance 3 points ago +3 / -0

I made a webview app when the site first came out. I could give you the source code link once i put it on GitHub. Made a post about it and mods recommended going to discord Dev for faster verification. I personally haven't gotten mine verified yet. They've been really busy with other stuff.

Viewing this site on iOS is terrible. It’s jerky, the cloud flare DDoS protection check is annoying as fuck. I used Apollo for reddit and it was a feature filled, smooth experience. Don’t tell people that using your choice of platform is superior.

Then don't use Crapple!

Cmon guy i know we all got jobs but some of us(me) are lazy as shit. We want an app!

3
Number2withfries 3 points ago +3 / -0

This sounds like a good idea to me and I support it. However, I would just go in with the idea that building something like this will probably have a low user base due to the fact it's unlikely that the Play/App Store will ever allow this in and that will disqualify pretty much anyone with an iPhone from ever using the app unless they want to jailbreak their device.

trashquatch 3 points ago +3 / -0

This guy fucks.

a_chill_bro 3 points ago +3 / -0

iOS developer here. I would be willing to contribute and help build an app.

My only concern would be Apple taking down the app from the App Store as a result of "hate speech" violations, etc.

2
Diedinium 2 points ago +2 / -0

Would he great to see, only concern is that the twats at Apple and Google will almost certainly not allow it on their app stores, or will allow it, but remove it when it gets popular enough to be noticed. I can already see their disgustingly leftist bullshit takedown notices that go along the lines of "Due to violations of our terms of policy and terms of service (and totally not because we just don't like thoughts that differ to our own) we have removed blah blah blah..."

Luckily on Android, it can be side loaded and hosted on other app stores if Google play removes it... dunno what you could do about Apple though (plus you'd need to pay $99 a year for the "privilege" of hosting on their app store).

Good luck with getting the chance to make an app, you certainly seem motivated (and have the experience!) to do so.

Wheredidiputit 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes please

2
frothy 2 points ago +2 / -0

I'd pay money for an app similar to Bacon Reader.

2
CertainlyNotEdward 2 points ago +2 / -0

I would give you $100 up front to help support this, and could even be convinced to pay a small annual subscription for minimal maintenance to get rid of ads.

But for the love of God, please include a night mode and swipe for up votes/down votes. The mobile interface here just sucks.

2
AgarthaForever 2 points ago +2 / -0

I will buy your app.

2
wethepepe 2 points ago +2 / -0

Not sure if you're thinking iOS or Android

iOS will inevitably boot you off the App Store (see what happened to Gab as a reference)

Perhaps you might have slightly more protection because of the nature of TheDonald.win compared to generalist and aggressively pro freespeech Gab

But just keep that in mind

Would love to see an app though !

Sapples23 2 points ago +2 / -0

An app would be great buddy. Hopefully the mods contact you ASAP
