Someone ask the Democrats how open borders help us with pandemics exactly.

Also, we have an army of cucks in here downvoting comments. It's been going on all day long now.

The media really went from 0 to 60 on this. They should have done their jobs and kept people apprised on what's happening, but advise cool heads. I'd say on a scale of 1 to 10, we should be worried at about a 3.

43
IncredibleMrE1 43 points ago +44 / -1

More people have died in Jeffrey Epstein's jail cell than from coronavirus on American soil. Caution is wise, but we'll be fine.

Media are trying to tank the economy in order to stop Drumpf. Bill Maher is giddy with excitement.

Just watched a story on my local news about a 62 year old guy that is just getting over having it, he said for him it was like a mild flu...more of a nasty chest cold. They are praying this gets really bad just to make Trump look as bad as possible, which is fucking sick.

It has a 28 day incubation period (can spread without symptoms, we have no vaccine for it, it can spread via mouth/eyes/nose or by touch, it can survive on surfaces for up to 9 days, and it currently has a 2-10% mortality rate which is magnitudes above the flu.

Then you have the panic it will cause which will probably be worse than the actual virus based on what's going on in Italy.

5
Stormysrectalseepage 5 points ago +6 / -1

My question is how did it go from 14 to 28? And if we arent trusting the Chinese on the number of cases, why are we trusting them on the incubation period. That is where the 28 number comes from correct?

11
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 11 points ago +12 / -1

People held for 14 days and released got sick. 28 days is the largest gap. Effectively they are learning the effects on the fly and as time goes on. Longer this goes on for the more we learn about it. Some people have a larger delay than others.

We kind of have to rely on Chinese numbers or else we just go in blind. Can't prepare for something that we know little about while ignoring all Chinese data.

1
Keiichi81 1 point ago +3 / -2

Everything you've just said is completely inaccurate. The virus has an incubation period of up to 14 days and most begin showing symptoms around day 5. No estimates I've seen say a 28 day incubation period. The period of time the virus can survive on surfaces is definitively unknown, but is suspected to be only a matter of hours, not nine days. The mortality rate of the coronavirus is up to 3%, not 3-10%.

You're propagating hysteria.

EDIT: So upon researching it further, it appears the notion of a 28 day incubation period is based on a single Chinese man who appeared to exhibit symptoms 27 days after having contact with his infected sister. A single ambiguous case does not warrant a definitive statement that the virus has an incubation period of 28 days, and the official information from WHO and the CDC is that the incubation period is at most 14 days with 3-5 days being the usual period before symptoms begin presenting.

11
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 11 points ago +13 / -2

It will probably hit, then hit them again, then be over. However that 28 day incubation period is a nightmare.

3

What really was stupid is that even popular sentiment on T_D was buying this garbage until a couple of weeks ago. "MSM is downplaying it! China is covering it up! These ALL CAPS Coronavirus fearmongering titles almost daily even on this forum.

It was never even remotely close to being a pandemic if you looked at the numbers. Too many people buying the hype.

3
Telperion 3 points ago +4 / -1

Communist Party secretary literally told Hubei province leaders to stop reporting new cases, but Glorious China is definitely not covering it up.

1
Onplanet 1 point ago +1 / -0

I presented that poorly, I meant that these talking points were being used to spread this resident evil style worldwide-pandemic idea in people's minds. China naturally covers stuff up because they're obviously all about covering their asses and making themselves look good.

I wanted to point out that this wasn't any indication that it was a worldwide threat. It was just being parroted to spread fear that "hundreds of thousands of people had died" and that people in western countries would soon be dying off in droves - without any proof whatsoever.

It's funny how they ignored the virus when it was in China and people were posting videos of the CCP rounding up citizens and throwing them in boxes.... and then within a day all of a sudden it's Coronavirus 24/7.

I'm not exactly certain what their slant is; but, there's definitely an agenda with the virus.

Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 15 points ago +21 / -6

I think people should be seriously concerned about this. It's not going to end civilization but the store runs and fights will be real. Likely to have areas isolated so no supplies moving. It has between a 2%-10% mortality rate according to Chinese numbers.

14
Oback_Barama 14 points ago +15 / -1

I think the mortality rate will be significantly lower if they can keep the spread down. Maybe even less than 2%. The problem is when everyone gets it at once and ~10% need a hospital bed. There just aren't that many hospital beds in a city. When the hospitals have to start turning people away, then the mortality rate will go up.

It probably over-preperation but I feel a lot better after doing it, and there's really no downside to being prepared. Here in the Midwest I've never done hurricane prep :-)

Most of the US does not have the same population density or public transportation as China. We also have better hospitals, less air pollution, and fewer smokers.

Even if it does hit us, I’m not sure it will hit us nearly as hard. The economic impact of all these Asian countries being hit might be a problem though.

At least we’ll be fine on food, though stocking up is never a bad idea...

3
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 3 points ago +3 / -0

Some people barely have a week of food or only a few days. I normally keep too much food for variety so I just had to get a few things.

2
Telperion 2 points ago +2 / -0

100% on the hospitals, but on population density, Wuhan and Hubei province are definitely more more comparable to American metropolitan areas than Beijing.

4
Deplora 4 points ago +4 / -0

Mortality rates in the US and other fully developed countries will be substantially lower than in China.

3
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 3 points ago +3 / -0

Probably. Still if its 1% then its far worse than any flu.

1
Deplora 1 point ago +1 / -0

Depends who's getting it in the first place. If it's mostly the very elderly and/or seriously ill to begin with, the true impact of a "high" death rates would be much less than if the total incidence includes a lot of young and healthy people. It sounds kind of callous, but it's reality.

If most of the deaths from coronavirus are simply acceleration of the deaths of people who were going to die in the next year or two anyway, there's little concrete impact on society. Very different from HIV/AIDS in the early years before effective treatments were developed -- that was killing mostly people who were young, healthy, and economically productive at the time they became infected.

1
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 1 point ago +1 / -0

It has killed quite a few Chinese doctors and nurses in their 20's and 30's.

1
Deplora 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yes, but they had extensive occupational exposure (quite likely accompanied by occupational exposure to other infectious agents, creating co-morbidity factors), were likely weakened by sleep deprivation, and may have had other risk factors that are more prevalent among young Chinese professionals (e.g. poor nutrition, heavy smoking) than among young professionals in fully developed countries. There has also been some speculation that there may be some ethnic factor that increases susceptibility and/or severity in Asians.

Obviously there's still a lot to learn, but I'll be extremely surprised if coronovirus starts killing off previously healthy young and middle-aged adults in the US in any significant numbers.

1
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 1 point ago +1 / -0

I know 24 yr olds in worse shape than 60 yr olds because of a lack of ANY exercise along with a McDonalds and Ramen noodles diet. Probably kill them then cause a lot of panic because people look at age not lifestyle.

Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 7 points ago +12 / -5

China is not fully reporting its numbers. Wuhan has like 9 Million people and there are sick everywhere. Maybe 78,064 admitted to hospital (who knows how many turned away).

This virus can have a 14-28 day period of being contagious without symptoms. So outbreaks are heavily delayed. It can survive on surfaces up to 9 days and can spread through touch or by airborne mucus membrane.

deleted 10 points ago +13 / -3

The 28 day incubation period is the real problem. One person could spread it to thousands and then the hospitals get hit will get bombarded. Heck I'm currently sick with one of the yearly things and having a second virus happen at the same time could be bad.

That may backfire horribly in 2 ways. If everyone panics, buys supplies while its still in supply, then the virus hits then it won't be that bad and people will be ready during Trumps presidency. If Trump manages to somehow stop the worst virus promoted by the media in history than he's a god emperor that can fight plagues.

China released the virus where and when it did on purpose to cause maximum damage to Trump in 2020. To fight the trade war they could not just ban exports to the US and get away with it. But the bioweapon deployed against their own people provided the perfect cover to hurt the American economy. The months of information suppression was not done to save themselves embarrassment. It was done to intentionally maximize the damage to Trump's machine and also to get the virus to spread as far and wide as possible so China could come out on top.

3
Telperion 3 points ago +3 / -0

Hard to imagine China coming out on top of this. They rely on the international trade that's pulling away from them. They have citizens intentionally spreading the virus as an act of rebellion, trying to stress the system to hurt the Communist Party. Their information suppression is revealed left and right, the complicity of the lab, and suspicion about the deaths of whistleblowers. It's an embarrassment.

1
molecularpimpin 1 point ago +1 / -0

I think since the chinese communists are fully evil gangsters who care more about their own money and power than human life, they would be more than happy to kill a hundred thousand or more regular chinese people if they were sure it would result in Trump losing 2020. It is admittedly a stretch, but this is clown world after all.

You could have made a similar logical argument about liddle adam shcitt before the impeachment thing over the Ukraine call - "they won't impeach, since there's obviously nothing illegal about the call with Ukraine's president, it would only hurt their chances in 2020. They wouldn't do it since it will obviously help Trump".

Now I know those two things aren't the same at all. I'm not saying releasing a bioweapon on your own people to "Get drumpf" is in the same ballpark as filing bogus impeachment articles to "get drumf" but I'm saying the logic of "they wouldn't do something that will overall hurt them in the end" doesn't always apply when the players are irrational or operating on wrong assumptions. And I think we could both agree that the chinese communists and the adam schitts are both operating on wrong assumptions.... at the very least.

You have to look at what happened in Italy over the last week, once we get community spreading without the ability to index where it came from it’s going move fast - think of it like a DDOS attack on our medical system

4
Capitalism_Fuck_Yeah 4 points ago +4 / -0

3
Stormysrectalseepage 3 points ago +3 / -0

The Washington Post posted that bombshell headline....and then 2 sentences in "the CDC is unclear if the individual had any contact with anyone traveling from so and so" ...and the person happens to be located right next to the Air force base where people are being quarantined.

So while it didnt have a "clear source", the sensationalized headline made it sound like they were sure the person had no contact with a person traveling to China, but that's not the case. They dont even know. Then the person happens to be located right next to the Air Force Base. Pretty big coincidence.

Watch it be gone by April like Trump said. Watch the markets rebound and smash new records as the DNC heads into it's brokered convention. Watch as the first debate everyone already forgot about Corona like they did about Swineflu and all that's left is "miraculous stock rally!" being shouted from every news paper as Bloomberg gets the nomination and finally puts to rest any lingering doubts about the left being for sale.

2
Larka 2 points ago +2 / -0

I doubt it'll be gone by April, but I think things will have calmed down and be fairly business as usual by then.

The Japanese have it right: The shit is too infectious to stop, but isn't nearly as dangerous if you catch it early and can provide treatment. If you can slow it down enough that your medical infrastructure doesn't get overloaded then it effectively is just a very nasty flu.

2
Telperion 2 points ago +2 / -0

April seems much too optimistic, I've gotta say. Quite a CCP talking point. Maybe we can stop confirmed US cases by then, but some relatively serious countries are getting so hosed that's just too fast.

1
BoughtByBloomberg 1 point ago +1 / -0

I based this on the fact that the FED will meet the 17th of march and China is reopening factories already.

Don't get me wrong, the RECOVERY will be done by April 1st, we won't be out of the woods for months regarding the virus itself but the trend will be back to upward growth.

What was it that Candice Owens Farmer said in a House hearing?: Every 4 years all democrats have to offer are handouts & fear.

Boy, are they upping that "strategy". I'm a normal-enough human being & I cannot understand how anyone wouldn't feel embarrassed knowing it's obvious to you & EVERYONE ELSE that you're embarrassing yourself. I will say this, though; we've been seriously worried about the virus at my house... until the "news" & democrats (Rod Rosenstein's sister at the CDC, initially) suddenly started talking about this with their hair on fire after banning ZeroHedge, labeling everyone a "conspiracy theorist" for saying China's full of shit, & now going after Rush for saying everything's going to be okay when they've been demonizing any worry about this for months.

Lastly, I'll say, they keep talking about how the sky is falling, because we're out of masks. THEY KNOW DAMN WELL US "CONSPIRACY THEORISTS" HAVE BEEN POINTING OUT THAT MASKS DON'T HELP ANYWAY!

Handouts & fear, handouts & fear.

2

If it fails to get a foothold in the US vs. all these other countries, it serves as an endorsement of our existing system, and they can't have that. Have to convince people ahead of time that it will be worse, and then claim it was just too late thanks to those damn Repiglicans when it fails.

TDS is one hell of a delusion and the NPC's are programmed to always blame Trump.

In times of uncertainty, people gravitate to the strong man (Trump) not the weak man (Bernie). People forget that the violence and uncertainty over ISIS back in 2015/2016 was one of the things that first drew people to Trump.
