Hi, I'm an IT professional with 20+ years of experience. I've done a little bit of everything with Ansible automation and web development as my current expertise. I also do system, network, cloud, SQL development, Python, Java, JavaScript, and etc.
How can we give back to community to improve TheDonald.win?
I would love nothing more than to turn .win into a platform that can take on Reddit head on and kill it. It would be the ultimate payback for what they did to us.
What's the discord room name
I think we need to get vetted before it shows up. Are the discord mods only those with red usernames, or can blues also vet?
Code should be vetted in pull requests anyway. As long as approved reviewers are not cucked, the process is fine.
If you are speaking about the security practices being freely accessible, sure it is easier to find exploits with an open code base but the majority of secure information is usually managed by a devops team and kept secret in environment variables only stored on the server.
Experienced hackers also do not need source code as they have kits that probe for common vulnerabilities. Basically they do the same things a security audit would do.
The benefit gained from a large dev team far outweighs the vulnerabilities that might be introduced.
No I meant on discord, you can't see the dev channel unless you message the mods for permission.
But like, do you really think this site has a devops strategy? Bro we're lucky if we even have a QA site to work with. This shit is being bootstrapped by a ragtag group of like 5 pedes who got so fed up with reddit's cuckoldry that they made a really nice clone in like a weekend.
If we get hacked, we get hacked. Our goal should be to mitigate through frequent database backups so that we can restore the site quickly with minimal loss of content.
They already have cloudflare set up which means they are taking some modest security precautions, I think it is safe to presume they have environment files for local and production servers. If it is more than one person developing, then they most likely have local development configurations.
They probably already have most of what is needed to bring on more devs already. Given that, they just need to limit the number of users with super user/root access on the server, release management, and vet the people who do pr reviews.
I do that for most small projects. I might like to help out if they are using a platform and language I am familiar with. If not I might be able to do some front end stuff. Just need to have a contact we can send inquiries too.
I'm a Software Engineer. If you could share the discord room I'd appreciate it.
I'd also like to help.
Username does not check out.
Some butchers make the best cheese. Milk the cow right before you butcher them, then boil their young in their mother's milk. On second thought, better not do that.
Heh.
Make us some fucking Mac and Cheese! We got coding to do!
What's this about mac and cheese? I want some!
Not a coder. Guess I need to learn. But I am waiting for that donation button.
Yes! A donation button would be great! Hosting a site can get expensive quick!
especially if we can donate bitcoin.. it would be a little more anonymous.
i would love to donate towards an app and of course keep this beautiful place kicking
Learn to code,fat
This
Well, the code can be release on GIT then anyone wanting to help can submit pull requests. That the way a lot of open source projects are done. The trusted vetted people can do the approvals.
What got me started was noticing that I could up-vote my own comments.
But with sharing on GIT, it could also expose any possible vulnerabilities (known cve's, problematic libraries, bad coding practice). Not saying they shouldn't do it, just something to consider before pulling the trigger.
I messaged the Mod's with the info.... didn't want to post publicly. ;-)
Yep. Extreme vetting. Hopefully they understand. The last thing we want to do is give some deranged leftist access to the code repository.
Make an app. 99% of my Reddit browsing was on mobile. Websites blow.
^ he's right you know
Honestly, I think it would be simpler and more beneficial to turn this into a progressive web app. One single code base would allow thedonald.win to act as a traditional website that adjusts based on screen size as well as provide the ability to act as a native app on both desktops and mobile devices. It would also give us the ability to subscribe to push notifications. I work on PWAs every day and it's really a game changer for making content universally accessible.
I agree, an app would be amazing.
Me three. Also, great job already so far in creating .win. Everyone’s efforts are massively appreciated. We have many legs!
Reddit's app blows. I prefer both as a web version on my mobile.
this is what the internet was for, a bunch of deplorables banding together to create cool and good shit for others to enjoy!
God speed you tech wizards
learn to farm
We'll starve if I farmed. But I can fix a tractor and code an app to automate stuff. Actual farming, umm, no. I'll leave that to good 'ol boys in fly over country. God bless our farmers!
A suite of tools like RES. I want NeverEndingWinning!
Would love to see a thedonald.win mobile app, for both Android and iPhone.
How about coat bot and brick bot?
Same
Email the admins and join them on discord. When they first went public, they requested help from proven professionals.
I really wish I saw that message. I could have really helped out.
Beautiful Pedes, always ready to help. Thank you all.
Bout to get crunk in this biotch.
Coder with resources here.
Concur. I'm also more-or-less full stack, although it depends on what's in the stack:)
Not a code monkey, but I am sure with my evenings and weekends open to help, and my wallet ready, there is something I can do!
Developer checking in, lemme know how we can help!
My vote is for an app
Build us an army!
How about a thedonald is fun app for mobile? Similar to the reddit is fun app.
"coder" here as well. While I don't have a whole lot of time to help on development efforts, do you have any contingency plan if cloudflare decides to step in and drop support for this site? There's some stuff I'd love to share with the admins but don't want to post publicly, assuming there's some leftist here who would love a head start to cause us trouble here. Mods, if you wouldn't mind, DM me?
