Mike Pence was a governor. He knows how local and state governments respond to a public health crisis. What's more he dealt with one when he was governor. Some may hate that he's religious. Some may question why he wasn't quicker to create a program to give drug addicts clean needles to limit the spread of HIV. But he's not being hired to develop the vaccination or sample DNA. He's coordinating a government response to control disease. On this front he's one of the most qualified politicians in the US.
