Good question. He lost the caucus nomination and the people who voted against him there were smeared as extreme right wing by the media. This was 100% false, my delegate was very liberal. The media pushed him like crazy as good for Utah due to his connections back east. They smeared anyone who challenged him. He was credited with "Saving the Olympics" for Utah. He swung right and pro Trump while campaigning and the gullible voters did not do their own research and fell for it all. The people who are delegates at caucuses do deep dives and were not so easily fooled. The GOP in Utah provided a second path to nomination through signature gathering to prevent the caucuses from tossing out scum like Mitt and to protect incumbents.
