So this comes from work. I was having a discussion with a group, and one of them was talking about getting an electric car. They said that it was carbon neutral. I corrected them. Pointing out that the electricity going to your house is likely produced by some carbon based fuel. Here was his argument back: the guy who made this is really smart.
Let that sink in. He believed that intelligence somehow equated to honesty. I was floored, and had to explain that just because someone is smart doesn't mean they're not lying to you. I wonder if this kid is an example of youth...that they just buy what they are sold? Is it a sign of the times, or a sign of all times?
Appeal to authority fallacy.
I know a really smart guy that does investments, I was thinking we should go all in with him and he should be able to make us rich. His name is Bernie Madoff and he seems like he's really smart and knows what he's doing. I just sold my family home to pay for the investments, match me bro!
