But muh free student loans!

72
McFatty7 72 points ago +72 / -0

That should be enough reason for moderates to vote Trump in 2020. Don't reward blue-haired hippos & snobby debt-burdened liberals with wiping out their student loans.

You claim to be "so educated" all the time, why can't you figure out how to pay back your student loans?

2016 We borrowed money from rich generous relative at a 2% rate! It comes out of our account each month until sept 2027 (instead of by 2047!) Fuck Navient, the Dept of Ed and Obamas requirements(that no one could qualify for) to get approval for programs offered! We tried to refi our 7.5% rate they said we couldn't, we were stuck! Thank God for my cousin! He saved us!

Fuck Navient, the Dept of Ed and Obamas requirements(that no one could qualify for) to get approval for programs offered

Are you referring to the PSLF after 10 years of working for a qualified job? There's a temporary program for those affected.

If your PSLF application was denied because some or all of your payments were not made on a qualifying repayment plan for PSLF, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under a temporary opportunity.

Give this a shot.

Thanks! Already borrowed 80 grand from relative and paid Navient back in full. Auto paying relative 677.00 every month until October 2027!

The Federal Government guaranteeing students loans was by far the worst thing we've done. If we're going to guarantee something with federal dollars, we should have placed hard caps on tuition prices in kind. With maybe incremental increases of 5% every 10 years for the schools.

A college degree should not cost 75,000 with room and board for the same degree when it cost 17,000 back in the 80's.

The NCAA and college football teams do not need to spend millions on a stadium nor pay NFL prices for a football coach.

12
boomerbutnotOKBoomer 12 points ago +12 / -0

Amen Chili - I was one of the nerds that actually read the 900 page recap of ACA. When I saw all those student loan provisions in there, I went to the longer bill to read it. I kept saying, "There has to be another provision here on tuition. This is BS. The colleges are wetting their pants over this! DAMN!"

Yeah - I wonder if we can force the colleges to roll it back. No Federal money for them unless they dial back their expenses and reduce tuition. I don't want to take care of someone's student loans for them, but I can see the gubmint doing a 10% reduction or an interest rate reduction that is retroactive. Screw these Demoncraps!

2
LowbloodHighEnergyRI 2 points ago +2 / -0

At least make the Universities have some stake in the game. That way they will vet their loan candidates like a bank would for a loan.

0
Independenceforever 0 points ago +1 / -1

Did you just suggest the cost of tuition isn't a fair free market value?

:O

3

^THIS! Seize the Endowments!

1
IntrepidBurger 1 point ago +1 / -0

That is actually the one area where a price ceiling would have been a good thing. Price ceilings cause shortages, which in this case would have been tuition slots. That would have forced colleges to set admission cutoffs which would solve the problem of loans going out to undeserving parties.

Peter Schiff, who was Ron Paul's economic adviser in the 2008 campaign, went up to a whole series of random people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans to ask about their education, and most are in massive student-loan debt; some won't even talk about it! - "Is a college degree worth the cost? You decide." -

This happened to my 18 year old niece. She got her first job working for her church and saw how much was withheld on her first paycheck and asked why so much was taken out. I told her she was now a Republican.

24
boomerbutnotOKBoomer 24 points ago +24 / -0

Yeah - had a conversation with my college age daughter on the whole Feel the Bern thing. She likes the slogan and has a poster on her wall. She also just got a new job that pays pretty good for her age. So together we looked at her paycheck.

I said, "Ok, do the math. How much is taken out of your check for taxes?" Let's just say it was $250 for a two week check of $1000. I asked her how she felt about that. "Ok, I guess. They have to pay for roads." Ok, good, she gets the concept.

"So - honey, that amounts to about 25% of your check, right?" "Yep" "OK, now you like Bernie. He wants to 'give' you all this stuff, right?" "Yeah, pay off my student loans, free college, like that." "Where does that come from?" "Well he's gonna tax the richest 1%." "Hmmmm. He said at 90% right?" "Right" "Ok, so if they took 90% of your income, would you stay in the US? Would you hide your income? Would you refuse to work or invest?" "Yeah (laughs) probably." "So if all the rich people left the country because of that 90% tax. Who pays?" "I don't know. The next ones down?" "Do you know if they charged the middle class 100% of their paychecks in taxes, it still wouldn't be enough to give Free Healthcare to all the Illegals, pay off your student loan, give you free college, and whatever other nonsense Bernie's spewing!" "Oh." 'Yeah. OH. So if that's not enough, the next level down is.....?" "Me." "Right. You. Would you keep working if you knew that 90% of your paycheck would be taken out to give free stuff to people who aren't working? That would mean you would get to KEEP $100 every two weeks of the $2,000 you are making. How does that make you feel?" ....... silence..... then.... "Oh, is that why you're a Republican?" "Yep. MAGA, baby, MAGA!"

If only Republicans actually reduced spending and taxes.

They don't.

At least Trump reduced regulations.

5

Trump was not in a position to allow a government shutdown. In his second term he will have more flexibility.

6

Fun fact that needs repeating at any available moment:

If you took 100% of the net worth from every billionaire in the country, you could run the federal government for about 7 months

19
Toughsky_Shitsky 19 points ago +19 / -0

... and then all that wealth is gone .. those billions don't magically come back the following year. Wealth is not income.

Then where do the leftards get their money for all that "free" stuff? From the middle class, as usual.

Leftards are fucking stupid .. they really are.

11
ProfessorRomendev 11 points ago +11 / -0

AND, this is net worth we're talking about! So taking the tens of billions from Jeff Bezos? You have to liquidize Amazon to do it, which puts hundreds of thousands of tax-paying americans out of work, so that's even more money gone!

I waited until my 8yo had been receiving an allowance for several months before I sprung the socialism bit. I told him the other parents and I decided we could split all the block kids allowance evenly, so when one was too busy or sick to do chores, they would still have some pocket money.

He said "That's the stupidest thing I ever heard of. I'll just save MY money and if they want the other kids can save theirs."

14
DX5_ 14 points ago +14 / -0

Unless you graduate with a degree in gender studies and aren't able to get a job. Which, in that case, you become stuck in a perpetual state of loserdom, join twitter and r/politics and become a full time shill, and at the end of the day the only thing you're good at is turning perfectly good food into shit.

6
idshukhov 6 points ago +6 / -0

There are so many people who can't get a middle class job after graduating from college these days.

I remember seeing some news magazine story about madrasas in Pakistan. They get very little education beyond basic literacy, its mostly about instilling a radical ideology in the young.

Replace Islam with leftwing extremism and you have our modern university system. A lot of these college kids have less knowledge of math, American history, basic core academic subjects than everyday tradeskill people I meet. I mean its not just they have no life skills or common sense, I can't see what formal education they've gained from those 4 years.

9
boomerbutnotOKBoomer 9 points ago +9 / -0

Part of the problem is the kids in college aren't getting a real education. Neither are the high schoolers below them. We've reached the Dumbing Down of America that was written about so many decades ago.

The second problem is how these poorly educated people with a Masters in underwater basket weaving now walk into a company, demand $40,000 a year to start, then throw temper tantrums when their boss dares to tell them they need to brush up on a couple of skills.

Hotel in town has now gone through 5 sous chefs in 3 months. The pay is actually pretty decent. And the boss is a nice guy. But the employees get triggered if there's even a hint of criticism.

You want to succeed in life? Be an adult. Learn to take feedback. Be a grown ass adult. The ones who make it are the ones with smart parents who made the kids do chores and work at small jobs while growing up. Vocational training is more lucrative right now than some stupid Ivy League uptown suit and tie job

I always thought Steve Forbes was right. Base wage, no tax. Then above that base, 10% across the board. Easy to do your taxes. Lower income are left with enough to cover food, shelter, transportation, medical. But the tax industry is too convoluted and huge right now.

to say so is to ignore all of our ancestors who died in several terrible wars so that we could appreciate this country and the rights that we give each other through a sacred contract (first am revolution, civil war, war of 1812 (2nd am rev--between us and uk))

people who hate our constitution are people who are useful idiots of our greatest enemies, partly china, partly globalist nazi (uk/nato), 100% mkultra-tavistock-frankfurt school victims of institutionalized brainwashing

Not really, it's just natural for a disease to spread more quickly in dense urban places.

I agree with your other point though, the more perfect the administration handles this epidemy, the better for Nov! The coronavirus is bringing the issue of healthcare to the forefront, and it's the Democrats' strongest topic. The sooner it's gone, the better from an electoral pov.
