I think there's one silver lining, All these actions Spez has taken against r/t_d, provide conclusive evidence that Reddit is a publisher, and not a platform, that would stand up in court.
All that needs to happen is for someone who has been harmed by Reddit to sue. For example, a family of a suicide case who had been getting counseling on Reddit, by amateurs practicing without a license. When Reddit would try to claim that they are a platform, the lawyer could easily prove this to be a fraud to avoid liability as a publisher.
I'd like to see the site runners charged with conspiracy to commit election interference if that were a thing. You're right about the publisher vs. platform vector though, this needs to happen sooner than later.
