or just look at the transcripts of justifiable homicides brought to court. Even if not charged for the death, most don't escape completely unscathed by the courts and the rest of the system.
and let's be honest, there's a fair chance his family will retaliate.. if you've protected yourself more than once in a ten year period, the system starts looking at you as the problem. . . the best (worst) examples relate to people living on or near the u.s. / mexico border which have been absolutely gutted by coward republicans and crazed democrats.
Negative. Dude broke into her home three times and stabbed her in the head with a screwdriver. Burn him down. Nobody’s gonna protest for this piece of shit. No DA is going to bring charges. No jury is going to convict.

Other option is sue police - make sure to rack-up the PTSD, lifetime trauma, can’t function/work, etc...to get the ask way up. Once tax money is on the line, but they’ll do their job. High profile could get pro-bono good legal team. At least lawyer-up prior to owing a gun in the event she has to use it.
