Yeah, coronavirus hysteria is ridiculous. The real threat is Drumpf being a Russian agent. REEEEE

The virus isn't bad enough to warrant "hysteria". I put that in quote because not much is sufficient to warrant mania and hysteria.

It is however sufficiently bad enough to be cautious and sensible. It's worse than common flu and in addition to common flu.

It's also probably unstoppable, like the common cold and common flu.

I think a lot of people are looking at the mortality rate. While not extreme, it is pretty high. Given it predominantly applies to the elderly, it would lower life expectancy.

If you look at it differently, that 80% of the deaths are in those over 60 then if that's to be believed and from Chinese data then that puts the mortality rate for people over 60 at something potentially as high as 20%. Though it's not at all a perfect art, that gives some indication of the worst possible case. It may turn out to not be nearly as bad as that, by one to two orders of magnitude.

This is concerning as a weapon for the left who believe that longer life expectancy is the problem of over crowding and not excessive breeding, predominantly in countries overflowing into ours.

Given that older people have had longer to overcome their indoctrination and may not vote as dogmatically as the young leftists, the leftists are quite likely to go out of their way to spread it and maximise impact to interfere with the election.

People might also be overlooking hospitalisation that can take a lot of people temporarily off the board, which is about ten times higher than the mortality rate.

While it most likely can't be exactly stopped, efforts should be made to slow it down and prevent rapid spread.

Flash points are problematic as they can quickly overwhelm medical treatment which would raise the mortality rate and cause chaos. In dense cities with mass transit that can be a problem. However in China, the spread in similar circumstances has been so so.

Slowing it down also gives breathing room for vaccination and finding improved treatment.

For the rest of us not on the broken left wing, the situation is very different, it's a duty to protect the elderly. For the left, the elderly are disproportionately white and they'll happily wipe them all out.

South Korea's healthcare system is actually first world like ours. They've tested a far larger percentage of people than in China. They've found that many are either asymptomatic or have symptoms no worse than a common cold, so they had no idea they had COVID-19. The mortality rate there has been more in the .2% to .4% range. Like everywhere else, it's not just older people, but older people with serious underlying health issues, who are more likely to die from it.

The thing that has surprised me most about this is how many people apparently didn't wash their hands before they were told it's a good idea. Gross!

I tend to focus on the worst case, at least within reason. It's too early still to be sure what the mortality rate might be in any given situation. We just know it can be as bad as up to two percent.

There are several factors that can influence mortality rate. I suspect that mortality will have gone down where doctors know what to expect at this point.

Whether you're looking at the optimistic or pessimistic it's not sufficient to panic but not sufficient to be entirely apathetic either.

Older people are more likely to die from it whether they have "underlying" health conditions or not. Being elderly is an underlying health condition. While having known conditions makes it more likely it's an irrelevant distinction.

Either way it still impacts the elderly disproportionately. Who also disproportionately have health conditions. Liberals will be going out of their way to spread it to "wipe out the boomers".

I think a lot of people are looking at the mortality rate.

We don't know the real mortality rate. We only know the rate for confirmed cases in places where we trust the reporting. Many people are getting it and recovering and never know they had it.

Get ready anyhow and hope you’re wrong.

Yep, and the dip is not happening because of fears for the virus, but because of the diminished supply lines from china. The global economic impact because of china will be quite large, but the US is fairly insulated from it THANKS TO PRESIDENT TRUMP'S POLICIES!

Yup. I manage my own retirement investments. Liquidated all my shares and started buying put options (basically betting that a stock will drop under $X by a certain date) and have made about 60% on my trades in the past two weeks.

Contrast that to my co-workers who just lets American Funds manage their portfolios who are mostly down 1-5%.

I bet that's how those fund managers make their money.

What I find amusing is the rush on toilet paper...plenty of Nyquil and Tylenol on the shelves, but toilet paper? If they believe the hype and this is a pandemic they should be buying guns and bullets. Amateurs.

Yeah if suddenly I find myself in a civil unrest scenario, I'm grabbing my guns and locking my house/street/neighborhood down

It’s a good thing the MSM and Swamp didn’t just spend three+ years trying to prosecute Trump or I’d say you’re out of your mind.
