Most leftist jews in america are jews in name only. They don't speak Hebrew, don't observe any mosaic laws, don't go celebrate hanukkah or passover, don't even support israel. Jews is just a label for victimhood status. Ben Shapiro had a video about this.
But based on my (bad) experience: in spite of all that, they seem to be quick to play the "race card" whenever it's convenient.
I had a toxic relationship with a horrible girlfriend who happens to be Jewish. Pan-sexual pork-eating pass-the-shrimp tattoo/piercing disaster of an atheist who goes to one of those Commie multi-cultural "churches" that is actually a DNC shell-corporation PAC for pushing Leftist Agenda policies and aiding/abetting illegal alien importation.
But WEW LAD, as quick as she gets offended about something and mounts the Moral High Ground... she's suddenly as Jewish as it gets. It is bizarre to see such an amoral person flip-flop between deliberately trampling Jewish customs/rules vs claiming sudden devoutness. But hey... that's Leftism for you!

They play the race card when it's convenient because no one actually scrutinizes them over it. The Left won't scrutinize them because as far as they're concerned, anyone who claims to have been discriminated against by anyone on the Right deserves to be believed automatically, evidence be damned. Baby brains on the Right believe them because it's confirmation bias, "I think Jews are dirty liars etc. etc. but I'm just going to listen and believe when anyone claims they're Jewish!"
Do you think that might be (and I'm purely hypothesising), because the Ashkenazim originate from a Khazar tribe that adopted Judaism as a means of not having to choose between the encroaching threats of Islam and Orthodox Christianity? Maybe they don't really have a deep interest in Judaism because they chose the religion out of expediency, not any deep, ancient link like Sephardic jews?

They're just being modern day pharisees, the kind of hypocrites who practice religion only for virtue signaling. Jesus was the promised messiah but they rejected him. In their mind their messiah must be a glorious king leading a heavenly army coming down for his people - like what Jesus's second coming would be. But that's not the case. Jesus came down to die for the sin of mankind and to build his church. They didn't get that. They'd been waiting for their messiah all over the centuries, but eventually they were done waiting, and may be inspired by the french revolution or some other civil unrest, I'm not sure, they realized that they themselves were the messiah, they were chosen to liberate all mankind and bring heaven on earth. Sounds familiar? Yep, that's the idea of communism. And all other leftist religions the derived from it. Judaism has been replaced with those.
