They're just being modern day pharisees, the kind of hypocrites who practice religion only for virtue signaling. Jesus was the promised messiah but they rejected him. In their mind their messiah must be a glorious king leading a heavenly army coming down for his people - like what Jesus's second coming would be. But that's not the case. Jesus came down to die for the sin of mankind and to build his church. They didn't get that. They'd been waiting for their messiah all over the centuries, but eventually they were done waiting, and may be inspired by the french revolution or some other civil unrest, I'm not sure, they realized that they themselves were the messiah, they were chosen to liberate all mankind and bring heaven on earth. Sounds familiar? Yep, that's the idea of communism. And all other leftist religions the derived from it. Judaism has been replaced with those.
