1/it kills as several magnitudes higher rate than the flu. even if it doesnt kills you you may spread it to people who will die.
2/ there are 2 strains and you can catch both. there this 36y.o. chinese man who died when he caught the 2nd strain for example.
3/its apparently more contagious than what were used to
4/the people who dont go to work i china are causing a supply chain slow down no matter what you think of the virus
5/in turn expect a slow down in the us as well as people are quarantined and told to stay home
seems like good reasons enough without getting in the conspiracy theories
for what its worth due to my work and location i most likely have it, so im sending this from quarantine. just the fact that i have to quarantine is not fun and not "normal". of course theres no test kit if youre not dying so who knows. i don't. maybe its just the flu. whatever i have its one of the strong flus.
I also think that I had it, but have no way to know. I dunno, I guess we'll see. I was on the "freak out" bandwagon before, but it's now been a while and there isn't significant spread that's noticeable in the US. Also, spring and summer are coming fast. Some think that won't mean anything, but common sense says it does. People point to Singapore and Thailand with their cases, but they ignore that their cases are directly relate to very heavy holiday tourism to those nations from China.
i too hope for the best, but it seems like theres a good chance for things to go bad, in particular because people believe its a hoax. if everyone was more careful with contact, hand washing, not coughing at everything they see, itd be fine probably.
but, we've been taught to be selfish little aholes, who will ignore all this - specially for the people living in cities.

Also, your first assertion is based only on including cases that were severe enough that the person persisted to get tested for coronavirus. The fact that there are probably millions of people in this country who have, or have had, this virus... bodes well in terms of the REAL death rate.
A lot of it is nothing more than Trump hate. I.e.: people wishing for a devastating pandemic that of course the MSM will blame on POTUS.
This is not speculation. I visit leftist sites when I have time and the obsessive compulsive focus on the virus is pervasive. It has to be seen to be believed.

I say that as someone who was kind of "freakout out" and prepped.... but it's pretty obvious that it isn't spreading as rapidly or severely as it did in China. People also ignore that in China, they ignored the presence of the virus / tried to bury it since late October. Quite a different response than ours.
