The overwhelming majority of people say that it's a scam that the media is hyping. It's been refreshing. Even women who are visibly liberal aren't buying the "End of World" scenario.

Drives a Prius. Multiple bumper stickers that say "Bernie 2020" or "Hillary 2016". Most likely a terrible driver

Hey there. I drive a Prius and a hybrid at that. I'm just careful with my money. Not a nut. I can drive 6 months for what I used to spend filling up my F350 one time.

26
TommyLasordasBallBag 26 points ago +26 / -0

Can't hate 52mpgs. Sure I have a mustang that'll do 160mph, but it'll pass everything but a gas station

18

"t'll pass everything but a gas station"

Nice

3
patriotmaga 3 points ago +3 / -0

I have the same issue with my 450HP German sedan. I get around 11mpg, all city. And I bought a 450HP sedan to use a of that 450HP. I knew it going in, and it's been worth every penny!

2
Marshall 2 points ago +2 / -0

So you're the kind of guy I used to intimidate in my F-350. The Prius isn't quite so intimidating.

trumpORbust 11 points ago +11 / -0

Ah but you could put a Prius in that F350

7
patriotmaga 7 points ago +7 / -0

Independents and Conservatives drive a Prius for household economic reasons.

Lefty's drive a Prius, so everybody can see that they drive a Prius.

its like, is it dangerous? yes. contagious? yes. should we all be heading to Costco and buying shopping carts full of Purell, Clorox and Dial soap? no.

should the markets be reacting like they are to this? FUCK no.

it's like they say in Men In Black: "A person is smart, people are dumb and stupid..."

16
datascience 16 points ago +17 / -1

The markets never do what they're supposed to do lol

19
DJT2020 19 points ago +19 / -0

It’s all run by emotion. Always overreacting to any news, good or bad. I can’t remember in the last 50 or so years when greed and fear was not part of the equation.

Works for me. I’ve picked up a ton of stock off people panic selling. Might take a year or two but it’s gonna be a nice profit.

18

It actually isn't. It has a .5% communicable rate opposed to a 4.7% rate with the flu. Every year between 30k and 75k people die of the flu in the US.

17
Wrexxis780 17 points ago +17 / -0

We may not even reach those numbers with the actions Trump took early on. By preventing travel to China for a while, the virus in the US missed half of flu season since it peaks in February.

Agreed. China unleashes a bioweapon and instead of being productive about solving the problem, they just found another opportunity to blame something on Trump.

1
krzyzowiec 1 point ago +1 / -0

I like how Trump slipped in that the origin of the virus was “questionable” lol. None of the press picked up on it though.

22
Lawless 22 points ago +22 / -0

My wife is as well and says the same, but still take precautions always

I think the left is really upset on how fast the Trump administration took steps to stop and slow this virus, and how well they've handled it so far

21

But then what would the media use to attract viewers? /s

10
TD_Covfefe_Crusader 10 points ago +10 / -0

They are running out of ways to claim Orange Man Bad. The coronavirus is just their latest variation on that theme. When the hype fades they will move on to the next bullshit.

15% of colds are caused by coranavirus instead of rhinovirus. This is just a particular nasty strain. It's hardly the end of the world like the media is hyping it. They don't give a fuck about our health. All they care about is sabotaging our GEOTUS. Elderly people in poor health may want to stay off cruise ships for awhile, but the rest of us are going to be okay. Our healthcare system is way better than communist China's. Even for the uninsured.

18
Bullet_Tooth_Tony 18 points ago +18 / -0

I work in the innovation building for one of, if not, the largest hospital system in Illinois. All of us are just annoyed by all of this over-hyping. If we get patients transferred to our quarantines or protocol nurse triage then we get free paid days at home. Wont hear me complaining.

I’m a physician too, but there is a huge difference between taking something seriously by making appropriate precautions and this ridiculous hype and panic being provoked by the brain dead talking heads on the news

15
Hareware 15 points ago +15 / -0

Optometrist here, we are masking, gloved, and face shielding behind slit lamp. First doc to notice the trend of Coronavirus in China got it from a glaucoma pt. behind the slit lamp. Now he’s dead but probs for CCP reasons.

Taking it seriously in prevention but also investing right now—ayyy

13
FudgyFudgeBots 13 points ago +13 / -0

PA here. I do believe that its being hyped but on the other hand, maybe the hype is a good thing. If it will will keep sick people at home, it may be worth it.

If people would take the flu as seriously as corona, there would be fewer deaths from the flu. Selfish people cant resist going shopping or out to eat while they have the flu. They dont realize that their actions might have killed someone.

5
inquimouse 5 points ago +5 / -0

This is my view as well. Why do we have so many flu deaths, anyway? Because people have a stupid way of going out and spreading it. Will they get the picture that self-quarantine is a good idea? I think that paradoxically, controlling this outbreak now will end up with a cry wolf effect later.

4
NormaJeanRocks 4 points ago +4 / -0

I'm trying to figure out these stories where people are going out to events that have Corona, or the flu..dont they feel like shit physically? I know when I have just a cold I dont feel like going anywhere, and this is supposedly way worse.

1
maganova 1 point ago +1 / -0

There is variability on how people will feel. Some young healthy people will have minimal symptoms like a mild cold and may not even realize they are sick

5
Muffinman 5 points ago +6 / -1

Its obviously serious, but is it as serious as the media is blowing it up to be?

The way they overblown this seems to have the opposite affect in a lot of people. Significant portions of the population end up thinking that is hype and dont take precautions.

Italians are hysterical by nature. Thus why there is an “epicenter” there. If everyone with a sniffle panicked and thought they had corona and rushed to the hospital like the Italians are doing in their hysteria, we would have exponential more reported cases.

9
iamlegend711 9 points ago +9 / -0

I'm not very worried about getting sick myself given what we currently know about the mortality rate (I'm fortunate not to be immuno-compromised), but I am worried about the media hysteria and continuing impact that it will have on our financial markets. Liberals may think that the Dow Jones is only important to billionaires, but it does/will have an impact on everyone.

4
PepesCovfefe 4 points ago +4 / -0

Be thankful for an excellent buying opportunity.

8
Marshall 8 points ago +9 / -1

I wonder how many people have already had it and didn't know it. I have had a particularly bad winter with allergy/cold/flu symptoms that never get really bad but won't go away for more than three or four days. It's now been going on for months. And I'm not alone. Initially, it was reported that the flu vaccine this year didn't do a very good job of projecting the viruses that would be a problem and was ineffective.

I finally got so bad I went to get check by my doctor and they said it wasn't the flu. But were they checking for Corona virus flu or just Rhino virus flu?

MW23232 4 points ago +5 / -1

Ditto my sister. Been wondering about her after the fact. She was sick a few weeks ago, and mentioned it to me - that she was fairly sick with a cold and cough. She has had pneumonia a couple of times in her life, too. She did not get pneumonia this time, no one else in the family got it, and she is fine now.

1
krzyzowiec 1 point ago +1 / -0

I have the flu right now, or something that feels like the flu. Splitting headaches were a pain but it seems I’m getting over the hump and my strength is finally returning.

It’s been a week or so. Joked about it being Coronavirus with my brother but I’m not sure how I’d even tell if it was...

7
Gmama2 7 points ago +7 / -0

Completely agree!

However, media hysteria will hurt the economy because conferences and events are being cancelled. Servers, hotel staff, people in the travel industry will be most negatively impacted.

5
Greatest_adventure 5 points ago +5 / -0

That's exactly what the MSM wants: to take the air out of the Trump economy. Hype and fear-mongering will get them there.

3
PinochetIsMyHero 3 points ago +4 / -1

It's not the end of the world, but it might be the end of a few million lives.

3
Greatest_adventure 3 points ago +3 / -0

The Coronavirus is a serious contagion, but it can be 'controlled' and in time decreased, if people take the necessary precautions, so it doesn't run rampant. OTOH, the MSM is weaponizing this situation just as it has done every other, to hurt Trump.

2
Leiloni 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's so overhyped people are doing their own research and finding out just how not "end of the world" this is. I've had liberals at work link me official data from Johns Hopkins (which is also posted by a random person daily on uber liberal Imgur).
