It started in Hong Kong. I read that in China and Hong Kong people get a lot of news through social media and by word of mouth and they are also very prone to crazy rumors taking off. There was a post on Wuhan_Flu about this. So the rumor got started pretty early on that there would be a shortage of TP in HK because supposedly they got all their toilet paper from Wuhan. So because of that rumor there was a run on TP there, there was a robbery of a huge amount of TP, crazy stories like that. I think the only reason why we're seeing the run on TP everywhere else is just due to those stories lol
I dunno, man. I have lived through some pretty bad cold and flu seasons, on top of other past "trendy" viruses and diseases. I don't remember a run on paper products like there is now. It's a retarded phenomenon.
Now, on the other hand, I can at least understand a run on disinfectants and those cheap masks, but it's still a tad bit ridiculous. The lines of caution have been catapulted into irrational hysteria.
