We've been wondering here in Spain if you get the Virus in the US do you need an insurance plan? Do you have to pay an incredible amount of money for treatment/time in bed etc when you recover?

Or is there some disaster recovery scheme in place that means those sick don't have to pay as they usually would. I would expect there is right?

Cheers

Yeh, that's the question; so even under these circumstances you'll be expected to pay (for care possibly not covered by your plan) if you have to get treatment in a hospital? OUCH!

Check your own health plan and travel insurance. They should provide info on what they cover or not.

Of course! Are people expected to pay fro their house if it burns down and they didn't have insurance? Are people expected to pay for food if they are hungry? This is just basic paying for their own maintenance

Our health care here in the States is varied , runs a spectrum. Under obama-care people were covered who had not been covered before, to them it appeared 'free'. I paid for it, paid for mine and theirs; prior to obama-care my private insurance was roughly 400 bucks a month for me and my Family, had excellent coverages and low-ish deducts/copays. After obama-care my coverage was 1500 a month, lesser coverage, just for me, not my dependents just me. Very hi deducts and copays, made the thing unusable except for catastrophies.

Okay, back to now...most people carry private insurance, as individuals or via work. Those plans all cover hospital care, sometimes with limits or conditions, each policy varies.

No one is refused care, if you cannot pay or have no insurance you are given assistance, charity if you will, no one is refused. Costs are paid by various methods, for instance illegals getting 'free' health care here costs us billions yearly. But we use public monies to pay it, my State of Texas pays more than a billion a year to reimburse the costs.

https://khn.org/news/medicaid-illegal-immigrant-emergency-care/

Our Congress made over 8 billion dollars immediately available to counter this media-hyped thing. No one will be refused, they never are... even if they themselves have no intention of paying or even have reason to be here.

This virus is not the monster media tells you it is, flu kills thousands and thousands a year here, just as reference. We don't panic over the flu tho, hmmm.

There currently is no real treatment, same/same as the flu. Liquids, cleanliness, immune system, same as a common cold too. People with complications are hospitalized, yeah, but most people who are going to test positive will never go to hospital. Same as we do not go to hospital for the flu.

If you develop pneumonia from it or other complications your insurance plan covers it or not, as you chose when you purchased the plan or joined it at work. Most do cover it, it is 'normal' and customary care, that's usually the standard for measuring things, customary and usual care.

Like I tell my employees, if you're sick stay home, we offer you some sick days just for these things.

Right, I guess what I was also wondering was whether any of the 8B actually went to aid people in hostpitals etc, seems like the US WILL cover people. Good to know you people will be taken care of too :)

Thank-you for your response, Patriot. WWG1WGA!

Going to get insurance after one has to use it is not the way insurance is supposed to work.

Most people have insurance for "in case something happens" and they will be covered.

Other people don't have insurance and should expect to "pay as they go" for medical care.

The government has set aside some emergency funding for those who cannot afford treatment

Depends on how poor you are. Medicaid is for the low income. Medicare is free for the elderly. Everyone else should be working and have healthcare. if you don't you might have a bill when its all said and done
