We've made some changes to Win, and wanted to provide an update.
Our updates were unfortunately delayed due to the hosting situation a few days ago, but we're back on track.
We've just made the following changes:
- an update to the comment box to add a character counter, some formatting options as a middleground to markdown, and a preview option to see your formatting prior to submitting
- search is re-enabled
- added a "back to top" button, which is enabled for logged out users and new accounts, but old accounts will have to enable this in their settings if they want this option.
- a "context" button on comment replies in inbox, and on profiles
We've also fixed an issue that made it unable for us to respond to modmail for the last few days, so we'll be dealing with that backlog shortly.
Our next priorities are image hosting, bringing back the bots, and getting the top sort option re-enabled.

This site is getting better by the day, thank you all for what you do. On the topic of the comment box, one thing I miss from the old site was the ability to select text in a comment and click reply, which would quote the selected text in a reply. Can you add that to the suggestion list that was going around a few days ago?

Workaround: You can select the text you want to quote, then copy/paste that into your comment in the desired spot.
If you start that line with a > ("greater than"/"right arrow") with no space between the > and beginning of the quote as in >thusly,
If you put a "backslash" before the > (with no space,) you get

Also: the "edit" button is your friend, and his buddy "undo" can be helpful. If an HTML thingy doesn't work as expected, often it's because of a space that shouldn't be there. I've been writing HTML for decades and I still make those boo-boos, so go nuts and experiment. (Pixels are free! No plant nor animal life will be harmed by your experimentation.)
Example: *two little star thingies should make italics, but I've broken it by making this space right here. *
However, it is quite easy to selectively italicize or bold-text as long as you watch the spaces, or lack thereof. This can even be done in the context of a quote thingy, such as:

>I had to hit "edit" and go back several times to make all this work as intended, but that's how to crumble those cookies. Trial, error, repeat if necessary!

Look in the red bar at the top right of the screen.
From what I can tell it is kind of greyed out when a message is available. It is bright white the rest of the time? that seems backwards.
Greyed out? On mine, it's orange.
I guess it is a dim orange. In contrast with the bright red behind it, it appeared to be a transparent greyed out.
