We've put out a new batch of updates, following yesterday's changes.

  • settings cog in navbar on both mobile and desktop now open a dropdown with links to additional pages such as saved and hidden posts (highly requested)
  • added a listing of posts that you have upvoted, also accessible in new dropdown
  • added option in settings to disable inbox replies when users reply to your posts (highly requested, per post setting coming soon)
  • the "messages" tab in inbox now only shows private conversations
  • added a new "comment replies" tab in inbox
  • fixed some issues where content would appear older than it is (>45 mins != "an hour")
  • fixed pagination issues on saved and hidden post listings
  • fixed pluralization of "comment" when only 1 comment

Our priorities remain image hosting, bringing back the bots, and getting the top sort option re-enabled.

Feel free to put suggestions in the comments.

Share TheDonald.win with all the Trump supporters you know.

Also a note on developers offering to help:

We do see and appreciate your offers, even if we don't reply to them all.

In the case of those with CSS (or perhaps even JS) abilities, we're definitely open to proposed changes. Prepare the changes locally and PM them to me, and I'd happily put them live (assuming they're good).

Mobile QoL changes would be appreciated.

On donations:

The Donald (and any future .wins) will never be monetized, but thanks for the offers.

Regarding Donations: I know you don't want to monetize, but perhaps have a donation link that dumps to a special account that the costs for the hosting and whatnot come out of automatically, with the rest donated at the end of each month to a rotating pede-approved charity group?

It could be controlled via a 3rd party such as a legal or accounting group so that no mod touches the funds, and would allow pedes to help support the site while still maintaining a non-profit status.

If we can help keep the lights on while also helping things like (just to pick one) say, The Wounded Warrior Project, or Cancer research or Adoption assistance, or what have you, I think it would be really amazing.

Just, think about it.

Why disallow them building a nest egg if the donations are above what's currently necessary? That rule means they can only lose: Either they get just enough to survive, or they don't.

I've always found it funny how this community is so virulently anti-profit when it comes to the message board. We talk a big game about capitalism but on here we want a socialist commune where nobody is allowed to make a dime.

I remember back in the day we ran off some of our best, most active mods because perish the thought, the idea of someone making a dollar was mentioned.

Funny, and sad at the same time.

I'm fine with them making a profit, TBH. But they said in their own post they wanted to be non-profit. I was just keeping with that theme.

But they said in their own post they wanted to be non-profit.

Because if they said anything else the rabids would have their head. It's not like this decision is made without duress.

wanted to be non-profit

How about in the somewhat near future .win gilds like Deddit? Unless there is a shill-abuse potential I'm not seeing... as for the rewards, pinning gilded comments near the top of the chain and they don't have to be badges, they can be bronze, silver, gold BRICKS along with some others. Gold brick with party poppers makes a somewhat annoying one-shot animation when browser gets to it on the page sprinkling confetti down on the page.

My worry is that a "nonprofit" relies on donations and not merit. This opens up an org to virtue signaling and cowtowing to wealthy donors rather than the user base. E.g. every university, public institution, politician in america. People sell out cheap! Just ask China - they have invested in breaking our system for pennies on the dollar.

Humble pedes making a platform for meme harvesting and farming deserve some Fed Reserve Bux in their coin purses.

That's a valid issue... but why not like a capped donation sum/month? E.g:

  • Community can donate ≤$50/mo, further donations will be blocked

or whatever the costs are

It’s not that simple as capitalism vs socialism.

The second that the devs or mods started making money on the site is the second you have to take that into consideration when you see what gets approved and removed. Are they shilling this guy’s posts because he donated? Are they removing traffic from certain sites that compete with their own?

Keeping this place demonetized ensures that you know we are only doing this for Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. Volunteering our time because we believe in it.

As soon as other people’s money comes into the picture, you have to start worrying about other people’s agendas affecting the final product.

Well said.

I only think that small anonymous donations (depending on the method, maybe the donors' name would have to be known to donate, but the username at td.win wouldn't) from $1 to a maximum of $25 or $50 a month, that are exclusively destined to the expenses of the website could help it grow exponentially, and no one would have power over what happens here.

The expenses could be disclosed, and all monthly donations can be accepted only until enough funds to cover the bills are reached. Members helping cover the costs of a website they NEED is not the same as "monetizing," and unless the person or people who have been paying this site's bills is/are millionaire/s, I don't see how anyone person or small group of people can be able to, besides dedicating so much time to the site, also pay for all the site's expenses, especially as it (hopefully) grows more and more.

We want this forum to have millions of members, but even with a lot fewer members than we used to have at T_D, the site gets extremely slow when traffic picks up a bit more than the usual. We already need a server upgrade, but dedicated servers for the kind of traffic we hope to have cost a lot, and we could even use paid promotion, if it's necessary, because unless we can catch the attention of people who aren't already Trump supporters but haven't lost all brain cells to brainwashing & TDS yet, we won't be helping president Trump as much as we want to.

So many assumptions! The owners are making a point not to monetize. We're trying to make sure there is enough that the site isn't lost. How to meet in the middle? It doesn't take hypocrisy.

I would guess the owner wants to make sure something akin to the Chinese or Soros level of funding doesn't happen. One dude paying all the bills and then asking for favors. But to be sure, I'd have to hear the reason. I don't want to have bad "reading comprehension" here.

It's because the only focus of this board should be to support and promote the president. If you start bringing money in, you start corrupting your decisions towards profit rather than the original goal.

This can be easily and provably be done with crypto.

Why would that matter? The difference is something or nothing. And this could be done in Dai, which is a stable coin pegged to the dollar.

posting a message on those sorts of forums are in terms of said crypto currency. with it going down, best to stock up.

The Donald (and any future .wins) will never be monetized, but thanks for the offers.

It isn't monetization, it's chipping in to help out with costs. Yes, you may have the costs secured but more never hurts. Please let us donate something. I love Trump, but with his money I feel that he doesn't quite need donations as much as this place would. I get 40 hrs per week and live with my parents (lack of friends to move in with) so I have money. Please let me be able to contribute to the MAGA cause in some way. I got mail yesterday from Daddy asking to contribute to his Trump MAGA campaign/PAC thingy, but I would rather donate here so I feel like I've contributed to something everyone sees.

Again, that is not monetizing it. It's supporting server costs and Cloudflare. Building up the stash of money for this website to stay up is not a bad thing. Unless you all have some Bloomberg-esque rich person funding you, I really think it isn't harmful at all to allow pedes lucky enough to be able to donate to do so.

EDIT: The "Trump MAGA campaign/PAC thingy" is actually officially called the "Trump Make America Great Again Committee (TMAGAC). You may have gotten a letter from Daddy in the mail as well.

Who is bankrolling this? Mmmmmm🤔

Admins are bankrolling it. I thought that was clear.

Thanks for opening up the offer to contribute code changes. This place is very meaningful to many of us, and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to be able to contribute to it. Cheers.

Who is paying for all of this, then? And why hasn’t the host that blacklisted us been named?

5
SkyEater 5 points ago +7 / -2

Yeah. I would like some transparency. If Trump teaches us anything it’s that. Everybody can see the swamp now.

1
1776-or-1984 1 point ago +5 / -4

Transparency for what? You get a free MAGA site. If it doesn't suit you, there's plenty of other sites.

I'm happy with .win as is. That being said, if they ever opened it up to crypto, I'd donate a monthly tuppence and crown.

LibsOnSuicideWatch 4 points ago +5 / -1

I love this place, but it would be nice to know some things. How are these people funding it themselves? They don't have infinite money. Unless they have someone rich in the background, the money will run out eventually. It will be especially dangerous when the election rolls around and the shits try taking this place down. I also would like to know who blacklisted us. It shouldn't be any security/privacy issue to state it, so it makes me suspicious that they won't even mention that much.

TL;DR Keeping secrets like this makes people suspicious. As lovers of Win, we want to support it and know what's going on for simple issues like the blacklister.

I'd just note that we still don't have any confirmation on why we were kicked off of whoever the previous host was. I know it's easy to assume it's because we're big and we support Trump, and it's certainly possible, and it rustles everyone's jimmies. But there's any number of possible reasons for it, and we don't know for sure. Could be related to getting too big for whoever the host was, regardless of content, or maybe something with the payment terms, or any number of other things.

I'd also trust the admins on whether it makes sense to name them. If it was because OrangeManBad, perhaps they negotiated some kind of benefit in exchange for not directing a social media mob their way, maybe help transitioning to the new host or something. Could be any number of things. Point is, let's presume for now that they know what they're doing, and if they're holding back, they have a good reason for it.
