There are downsides with cancelling. The panic will get worse. I think the panic is hurting much more than the virus right now.
On the flip side, that one idiot who went to CPAC infected could have infected our entire federal government. What is preventing one idiot from out of state going to this rally and infecting almost everybody?
You say the panic is hurting, I dont actually think that is a bad thing. Italy didnt panic because the virus had only been in china at the point it hit them and it spread all over their entire country.
I'm not trying to argue, but what do you think the difference is between the US and Italy in terms of stopping the spread of the virus? Would you rather people panic, or the virus spreads ? surely stopping the virus is the main goal. look at italy, with the entire country on lockdown.
I would rather the virus spreads just like every other cold and flu and that the panic would stop tanking our economy. This is no different than any other winter except for the panic.
We know that the virus has a significantly higher mortality rate among people who are older or have compromised immune systems. Do you know what the average age of those who have died from Coronavirus in Italy is? EIGHTY ONE. Yes, 81 years old. Many of them having additional conditions.
The goal isn't stopping the virus. That's like saying we should stop the flu virus. Yeah, that's a great pipe dream but it's not going to happen. What we should focus on is the understanding who is most at risk and how those people can minimize that risk.
When you start cancelling events and pretending that everything outside the house is the end of the world, you incite panic. You get people fighting over fucking toilet paper. Is that really the best response that we want out of people?
The goal is mitigation of the virus and reducing the spread, that is all we can do. This has been demonstrated possible in South Korea where their case count which was initially growing exponentially has started to reduce, when they closed all schools, colleges etc.
Basically every country in europe has begun closing its schools, colleges, and non-essential workplaces. Its bound to happen in the US too. Why do you think the US is different, what is it that makes it any different to Europe?
What I don't get is people saying 'its not that high, there are shit loads of people who have it and dont know so they aren't counted' but isnt that the same with the common flu? You can have the common flu and still go to work, and just feel a bit feverish, right? Or am I wrong?
If you can also have symptoms of the flu and feel fine, it DOES have a far higher death rate. At that point, you can compare the two death rates.
lol. A way for big TP (don't get excite Warren I didn't say teepee) to sell off that single ply that's been rotting in a warehouse ever since we stopped arresting so many illegals at the border.
And if they do this, based on the fact that they've shown it to be intentional, they need to be arrested for biological warfare. They are wilfilly taking a calculated risk that could make people die. An easy solution is to check everyone who enters just like they do at airports. If you have an elevated temperature you can't get in
If you want trump to win you would support cancelling these rallies like every other country around the globe is doing, cancelling large events.. How do you think its going to help the election, if he holds a rally in milwaukee, and then a few days later the infection count in milwaukee shoots up, people will blame trump. He has to cancel.
No I want Trump's economy to win and the only way to do that is to suffocate all this panic. Idiots are going to blame him no matter what he does so lets get confidence back in the market.
Nothing, but most pedes here apparently are too conceited to see 1) crazy Bernie bros doing just that 2) the stupid high transmission rate this thing has.
Even if youre young and healthy, the transmission rate alone will guarantee you pass it to someone who's elderly and weak.
Yes. Seriously, these rallies should not be cancelled. They're a big reason why this virus just happened to appear right now.
A few rules wouldn't hurt, like no handshaking with POTUS this time. Just wave or do the Vulcan salute (live long & prosper!) Maybe give all attendees a little bottle of hand sanitizer.
And it would be sensible for anyone in a high risk group to stay home this time. Otherwise? No. Keep the rallies going! The virus will spread anyway. Just take some precautions as advised and live your life.
Imagine if each state trump holds a rally, the case counts goes up compared to states he didnt have a rally in. Is having the rally worth the risk of him being linked to the virus spreading?
Yeah, but those are just confirmed cases. An unknown (but probably large, given how infectious it is) number of people with corona don't know they have it, are never tested, and recover normally. So it's less than 2.9% for sure.
It is probably less than 2.9%, or most likely yeah. Looking at South korea where they have done the most testing of any country, it shows a death rate of at least 0.7% though. That means it is 7 times more deadly than the common flu.
And remember, with the common flu, there are just as many cases which go unreported and not counted as there are with corona, many people who have the flu just feel a bit feverish and carry on with their day
The Milwaukee rally needs to be canceled, I love our GEOTUS but he and his team need to start getting ahead of this treat it like war time event.

It's a tough call.

What actually happened in Italy though?

But not pumping as much toilet paper as some people would like.
This could all be a big scam by Big Toilet Paper to cause a run on their products, raking in the profits...

I want to see TP pranks and TP Halloween costumes!

It’s been 1 week.

Ill remind you of this comment in a week
A few weeks ago US was barely 100 cases. Now it's 1,000. It doubles each 7 days in most countries. How do we not understand this?
u/CovfefeAndDoughnuts/ care to explain why the US will not be the exact same as italy in a few weeks ?

Could you be any more of a concern troll than you are right now?
Get a grip dude. This is exactly that type of fearmongering that we're trying to get away from.
No one knows anything about the transmission rate. We don't even know how it spreads
Low energy. We'll have rallies if we want, you can fuck off.

Lol. There are 1,000 cases in the U.S. - 29 deaths. So the death rate here 0.2% is pretty much in line with the flu at 0.1%.
Yawn.
Wake me up when we're back to "muh tax returns"
You also have to account for the fact that 19 of the deaths are from a single old folks home.
