They were arrested at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday by police officers working overtime security detail at Mar-a-Lago, after they observed a brown Ford pickup truck with a British Columbia license plate parked in the driveway around 10 a.m.
When Poon exited the vehicle and started taking pictures, officers informed her and Mennie that they were on private property “and were not welcome,” the report said.
Mennie and Poon told police they were from Canada, and thought they would be able to drive through the property.
Mennie then refused to leave and continued to drive to the rear lot of Mar-a-Lago. Police approached the vehicle and tapped on the driver’s side window to get the couple’s attention and told Mennie he needed to step outside the car. Mennie refused by shaking his head.
Police again instructed Mennie to get out of the car and identify himself. Mennie began writing in a notebook,“CIA.”
When they again refused to follow the officers’ instructions, police broke both the passenger and driver’s side windows with batons..
