I think this article kinda falls apart after the middle half and is harsh on Trump, but pay attention to the graphs showing recorded cases vs actual cases. China apparently went back and interviewed patients and discovered that their initial estimates of infected were way off. I'm skeptical of their numbers, period, but basically the virus grows exponentially and you're always a couple weeks behind where you think you are. So if you have 1,000 cases identified, it's more like you had 1,000 cases two weeks ago and they've doubled every two days since then.
I'm sure Trump's advisors know this and that's why I think he's taking action like travel bans. Wait til he implements bans against California or Washington or something and see how much people freak out.
