Not only that, as part of the contract, they have to pay for the televisions and any upgrades or replacements that have to happen when a television goes out of service. Quite honestly I don't know how they have enough revenue coming in to support such a venture. Literally most of their viewership is largely in part due to a forced audience.
I travel a lot and cant stand seeing that network plastered all over the place. I once watched a middle age lady watch CNN on the plane for the whole 4 hour flight.... her brain must be mush
I honestly don't think CNN is capable of making rational or logical programming or business decisions anymore. I don't understand how they continue to have sufficient ad revenue to stay afloat since billable minutes are based off ratings share in key demographics.

I don't know if airport TVs count for ratings, but if they do, I happen to think that there is always some people travelling and those airport TVs would probably be turned on anyway, so the fact that most people aren't travelling at the moment wouldn't make a difference.
However, Nielsen boxes are NOT the only means Nielsen Media Research collects data for TV ratings anymore. Nowadays, Nielsen also collects data from cable companies and count even viewership through DVR recordings. So what millions of people WITHOUT Nielsen boxes watch or set their DVRs to record also count to determine TV ratings.
