I don't believe the virus was bio-engineered. But the rest applies: People need to stop downplaying it on the basis that flu has greater numbers. Wuhan virus might already have surpassed that if not for the aggressive but imperfect containment efforts underway, and it probably will eventually.

INFOWARS has talked about scientists in India etc using electron microscopes to prove it was pieced together. I recommend Thursday's full show mp3 tv.infowars.com

All due respect, there are literal fuck tons of microbes and shit like prions, and I am not losing sleep over any of them, even the ones we don't know exists yet. Do I make comparative analysis to what this shit is capable of, to see if I should be concerned? Sure, I guess I am a "flu bro" in that respect. This shit seems like weak sauce compared to other shit, so I don't worry or panic. And since we are being pragmatic, I don't give a shit about it's infection rate. The survival rate is what I give a shit about.

Fucking colds are caused by Corona viruses, and yes I am sure people die from complications from a cold. I don't give a shit about catching a cold, even a "bad" one. If you want to go the bio-weapon concern route, then it's all moot anyways, you're just screwed is all. Do Inwant to get sick? Of course not, but if this truly is a seek-and-destroy virus, unless you have a fallout shelter stocked with decades of supplys and don't need contact with the outside world, slightly increased hygiene and sanitation isn't going to go a long way with something as you describe.

Not only that, mutations don't/won't necessarily follow into more deadly strains. Evolution, usually has trade offs, and not always in the doom and gloom direction, but sometimes yes.

Now where was I? Oh yeah, not losing any sleep over this. This has all been blown out of proportion and is fucking stupid.

On the other hand, if most of the "impact" is in fact just a result of the panic, then telling everyone"don't panic" is the proper response to mitigate the impact.

Warning of things like medication shortages and preaching the precautionary principle becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when loads of reasonably concerned people all move to stockpile necessities at the last minute. The resultant shortage leads to cries of, "see, I told you so", which kicks off more panic buying and more shortages.

To break the cycle of panic induced secondary and tertiary impacts, we have to stop people from panicking.

That's just it. I am feeling like the most "impact" I am going to feel is from everyone's stupidity and subsequent knee jerk reaction. The most damage from the covid-19 will be of the self inflicted, societal breakdown kind, not from the disease proper.

Then what do I get when OP is wrong, after their cautionary consternation? Nothing, OP will pretend like this post doesn't even exists when they look silly like everyone else. This whole running dialogue is already a complete waste of time. No Nostradamus value here.

If it was bio-engineered, they did a terrible job of it. There's nothing unusual about the infection rate compared to other strains of coronavirus. Most people who contract it won't even notice. Most of those who do won't even go to a doctor, but will pick up some cold medicine over the counter and deal with it. Of the ones that do feel bad enough to go to a doctor, the vast majority don't get any sort of test to determine exactly which virus they got because the treatment is practically the same for all of them and the test is expensive and time consuming.

What all of that means is that the only "confirmed cases" are cherry picked from the absolute worst cases vastly skewing the data on severity and mortality.

When the "enemy of the people" mass media wags their collectivist fingers and tells you to panic and freak out, the LAST thing you should do is panic and freak out. Remember, all of this doom-saying is coming from the same people that told us PDJT was going to literally start a nuclear world war.

Yeah I see a lot of "its just a flu bro", and a lot of accusations of concern trolling if you're less than dismissive about it. I work to be as rational as I can be, and have 6+ years of education plus tons of private industry experience in hard science (Biochemistry/Biophysics). The truth is that it's spreading incredibly fast and we have no idea of the long term effects or even if its been genetically altered to include some serious shit. And you can't ignore the absolute human chaos that panic can bring.

Its worth being CAREFUL but not PANICKING! The media is absolutely weaponizing this panic against Trump, and 100% panic buying is not the answer. However, mocking evolution and genetics never ends well, as the great Jeff Goldblum says "Life uhhhh finds a way.

It is the most god damn American thing we can do to always have food, water, and firearms on hand in case of ANY emergency. Our nation was built on prepared settlers who literally fought back shit that wanted to kill them by being smarter, more prepared, and possibly more drunk at times.

And yes for the "well actually" folks out there viruses can very well be considered a form of life.

More on our side will prepare so we'll be even better off if the lazy left try anything after Trump wins again.
