So I use this app called Flipboard to pull together various interest categories of stuff on the web in an attractive format. Over the years the number of Sections I would even open has dwindled (News is long gone), but for Cars, Gadgets, Travel, and such it was nice. The Travel section for instance is like a travel mag featuring destinations and bargains and tips and such.
Last night trying to use it and the content it was pulling was ABSURD. In the Travel section were preposterous headlines from NYT, Vanityfair, Salon and a bunch of other shitstains with titles like "Trump address to the nation was a cry for help."
It led me to find and use a feature I knew existed in the app, but hadn't used, MUTE SOURCE. You manually select each one and MUTE it, and Flipboard will never show anything from them again.
So I muted every source of these preposterous headlines. I'm not talking about mere criticisms--those I can handle and are part of legitimate debate. But all the trolling stuff.
My point is that mentally it feels different to entirely disconnect from a media outlet. It feels to me like after all the fake news, gaslighting, and media trolling, I am finally free. They are now Muted in my life, and I cannot imagine ever going back to a world where they even exist.

News was just opinion pieces and shit like pizza rat. Never actual news. Tech was a cluster of futuretech possibilities, but not about current technology. Photography was about how to hide a double chin and what filters to use for taking selfies.
All about clicks. I'm sure it was more about revenue than news. In the 50s and early 69s news desks were supposed to be loss leaders, and outlets had real reporters. Now it is about playing to an audience and getting revenue. Truth be damned.

I follow several Democrats on social media and they routinely post obvious satire and parody articles and react to them as if they are real news. They will post something from The Onion or The Babylon Bee and discuss it amongst themselves as if it was a real news story. They are so conditioned to Fake News now that they have lost the ability to detect satire and parody.
I accepted it as satire and thought it was pretty funny. Wilson came to keep him company. It is a silly picture and not real news but FB can't tell the difference.
